Joining Forces For Impact: Takeda Partners with AFN to Support Diversity in the Workplace

This year, we will once again be attending the Diversity Career Fair at African Fashion Night in Zurich, Switzerland on May 24. This annual event serves as a vital platform for connecting diverse talent with leading corporations dedicated to enhancing diversity in their workforce, all while fostering networking opportunities, meaningful conversations and career exploration.

Olivia James, Partner at African Fashion Night, underscores the critical importance of embracing diversity and understanding different cultural perspectives in the workplace. "Embracing diversity and understanding different cultural perspectives is crucial for fostering innovation and creativity within the workplace," James emphasizes. "It enables employees to approach challenges from various angles, leading to more effective problem-solving and decision-making processes."

Cultural understanding helps us all to interact and relate more closely to others from different backgrounds and cultures. It fosters connectivity on a human level and erases any biases that we may have.

Hear more from our people

During the career fair segment of the event, participating companies will set up stands to showcase employment opportunities, company culture and diversity initiatives. Candidates will have the chance to engage directly with recruiters, submit resumes and gain insights into potential career paths within each exhibiting organization.

The event will also feature an Impact Stage, where speakers from different companies will share insights and advice on diverse hiring practices, career development, and application processes. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in Q&A sessions covering topics such as fostering inclusive workplaces, overcoming biases in recruitment, and why representation matters.

Eugene Osei-Bonsu, Neuroscience Franchise Head for Europe and Canada at Takeda, will represent us at the event. Speaking on why representation matters and on the significance of cultural understanding in the workplace, Osei-Bonsu states, "Cultural understanding helps us all to interact and relate more closely to others from different backgrounds and cultures. It fosters connectivity on a human level and erases any biases that we may have."

Osei-Bonsu emphasizes the importance of authenticity in fostering an inclusive environment. "The understanding of why we may have differences and appreciation of these differences allows us to embrace them more and thus build an inclusive environment where people can be their authentic selves," he explains. "Not feeling the need to 'fit in.' Authenticity enables individuals to bring their best selves to work, contributing to a stronger sense of belonging and stronger teams within an organization."

We invite all attendees to join us at the event and encourage those interested to learn more about our commitments to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) to visit https://jobs.takeda.com/diversity
