About the Role:

As a Reliability Engineer, you will support the design, maintenance, technology and innovation strategies for equipment, utilities and facilities that minimize risks to manufacturing, the environment, health and safety.


How you will contribute:

  • Assists in improving equipment uptime, eliminate waste, and prolong asset life by developing optimized maintenance strategies that detect, prevent, or predict failures

  • Learns to measure and interpret KPIs for continuous improvement of equipment, utilities and facilities, by addressing the sources of defects in the design, operability and maintenance

  • Participate in design reviews and risk assessments of new or modified equipment, utilities and facilities are designed for Reliability, Maintainability and Accessibility
  • Perform system and instrument classification of equipment and instruments following applicable procedures
  • Set the optimal maintenance for equipment, utilities and facilities based on their classification and criticality, including preventive maintenance, condition-based maintenance and predictive maintenance.
  • Support the development of the Preventive Maintenance (PM) plans, PM / Inspection, and spare parts lists and maintenance bill of materials
  • Help maintain the master data in the CMMS system by ensuring that critical data such as the asset hierarchy, asset criticalities or system and instrument classifications, key equipment and spare parts manufacturer and model data, preventive maintenance plans, their spare parts lists, and spare parts stocking levels information are accurate and effective in CMMS, and initiate corrections when needed
  • Optimize the maintenance and calibration strategies to minimize or eliminate the need for plant shutdown days
  • Supports continuous improvement efforts by assisting in the monitoring of maintenance program effectiveness, helping collect and report key performance indicators (KPIs), and contributing to preliminary analysis of underperforming equipment (“Bad Actors”) under guidance from senior staff.
  • As assigned, participates in Root Cause Analysis of major equipment failures in the Plant and drive the implementation of corrective and preventive actions
  • Assists with asset lifecycle health assessments by gathering data and supporting analysis to forecast remaining useful life and inform replacement planning
  • Assists with basic troubleshooting support on the factory floor for equipment when manufacturing / production staff, maintenance and process/plant engineering staff require it  
  • Engage in learning through the community of practice for maintenance & reliability through the sharing of best practices and lessons learned
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

What you bring to Takeda:

  • BS in Engineering discipline required Mechanical and Chemical Engineering Degree preferred.

  • Minimum 0-2 years of related experience

  • Should possess knowledge of laboratory and pharmaceutical production and support equipment, including utilities and critical systems (Cell Culture, purification, chromatography, filtration, aseptic filling, lyophilization, packaging, CIP, SIP, HVAC, plant and clean utilities)
  • Understanding and ability to apply the concepts Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and/or Total productive Maintenance (TPM) is desirable
  • Ability to lead teams and multiple small and medium projects at the same time
  • Additional industry-relevant certification is desirable in the area of process improvements or reliability engineering
  • Understanding process improvement and reliability engineering principles, methodologies and tools such as PDCA, LEAN, Six Sigma / DMAIC, FMEA is desirable
  • Knowledge of asset management and data standards is desirable
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is desirable
  • Familiarity with the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is required
  • Understanding of the application of advanced maintenance strategies such as vibration analysis, fluid / oil analysis, infrared thermography and ultrasound is required
  • Experience with statistical data analysis and data visualization tools is desirable Knowledge of data science techniques and machine learning is desirable

Important Considerations:

At Takeda, our patients rely on us to deliver quality products. As a result, we must follow strict rules in our manufacturing facilities to ensure we are not endangering the quality of the product. In this role, you may:

  • Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.

  • Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
  • Work in a cold, wet environment.
  • Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary.
  • Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
  • In general, position requires both sedentary work and walking through facility
  • Wrist and hand motion (typing, writing)
  • May be required to visually inspect frequently when completing the following job duty: drawing verifications, field verifications, equipment verification, spare parts verification, start-up, troubleshooting, inspection, and commissioning of equipment.
  • Able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. · May be asked to work more than 8 hours per day/40 hours per week.
  • May be asked to work on weekends or holidays as needed.
  • May require availability outside regular business hours

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$56,000.00 - $88,000.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
