Job Description
Role Summary
- Have end-to-end accountability for the medical strategy and activities for the Global GI2 TA, from discovery/early-stage development to late-stage development/BD/commercialization. This includes Dermatology, Autoimmune Diseases/Rheumatology, Nephrology, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
- Lead development and execution of multi-year global medical strategy for the GI2 TA, including full budgetary responsibilities and aligned with overall Global Medical strategy and cross-functional partners
- Ensure GI2 strategies accelerate regulatory approvals and optimize market access globally
- Champion digital transformation and AI-driven methodologies to enhance evidence quality and operational efficiency.
- Serve as a member of the Global Medical Leadership Team (GMLT) contributing to overall Medical portfolio management and prioritization, as well as definition and execution of the Global Medical multi-year strategic plan
- Accountable for development and implementation of all GI2 TA Global Medical and evidence generation plans and strategy in collaboration with cross-functional partners
- Serve as the key Medical representative on cross-functional global strategy teams that include R&D and Commercial
- Serve as the senior Takeda representative interacting with external key opinion leaders (KOLs), patient advocacy groups, and/or regulatory authorities
- Collaborate with Legal, Ethics & Compliance and Regulatory functions to ensure proper and ethical interactions between Global Medical and external stakeholders
- Partner with Access to commercialize GI2 medicines
How the job will contribute:
- Develop and execute multi-year global medical strategy for GI2 TA, aligned with Global Medical strategy.
- Full budgetary responsibility and headcount planning.
- Accountable for global medical and evidence generation plans, publication strategy, congress planning, and scientific communication platforms.
- Serve as senior Takeda representative with external stakeholders (KOLs, advocacy groups, regulators).
- Collaborate with Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Regulatory, and Access teams.
- Ensure all interactions and activities comply with global regulatory and ethical standards.
- Defines overall TA strategy, including headcount planning and full budgetary responsibilities.
- Develops and executes medical strategy for all assets/indications within the TA, including evidence generation strategy/execution, publication plans, congress strategy, customer interaction strategy, scientific communication platforms aligned with product strategy, BD medical activities, and digital strategy.
- Develops overall medical product strategy and Medical input for products to Product Strategy Team, GPTs, and Senior Leadership Teams.
- Leads the development of medical tactical plans and budget for global initiatives.
- Defines overall Global Medical goals/deliverables and key performance metrics.
- Acts as a senior company representative with external scientific leaders, policy makers, patient advocacy groups and/or regulatory authorities.
- Establishes and/or enhances partnerships with key academic institutions and develops relationships with key thought leaders.
- Establishes appropriate strategic partnerships with HCPs in areas of scientific interest.
- Represents Global Medical at internal and external meetings.
- Serves as a key medical resource on the disease areas and on specific products.
- Maintains a high level of expertise in TA disease area.
- Develops and maintains knowledge of global pharmaceutical regulations, guidelines, codes of practices and Takeda policies related to all medical activities.
- Leads and develops a global team of Medical professionals in GI2.
- Develops, conducts, and/or participates in therapeutic training programs for Takeda internal departments.
Expected skills
- Advanced scientific degree required (such as MD, PhD, PharmD); board certification in Gastroenterology or Immunology or related field strongly preferred
- 15+ years of experience in biopharmaceutical medicine, some or all within a matrix structure
- Leadership & Influence: Strong at leading large teams and influencing internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Leads as a global enterprise leader first and functional expert second
- Drives speed and quality of decision-making
- Drives fiscal discipline and accountability for delivering results

- Recognized authority in Medical Affairs, providing strategic leadership and operational oversight
- Advanced proficiency in Strategic Planning, aligning medical strategies with business objectives
- Problem Solving abilities, adept at identifying and resolving issues promptly

USA - MA - Cambridge - Kendall Square - 500U.S. Base Salary Range:
$336,000.00 - $462,000.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
