Job Description

Objectives:

  • The Associate Director, Global Scientific Communications, Mature Brands, is a dynamic, strategic role within Global Medical Affairs that collaborates with cross-functional partners to own one or more disease areas / assets on a Global level.

  • Cross-functional leader responsible for the resource/ budget allocations, strategic co-development, prioritization, and execution of medical communication plans encompassing tactics such as: core content, scientific communication platforms, HCP education, congress activities, digital initiatives, and communications planning.

  • Leads medical review of promotional and non-promotional materials.

  • Demonstrates subject matter expertise on GMA tactics, solid understanding of TA strategy, ability to influence internal and external stakeholders, capability in guiding major technical and methodology efforts in application to business, expertise in industry trends beyond GMA.

Accountabilities:

Manage Global Medical Communications planning and execution for mature brands.

  • The Associate Director, Global Medical Communications is a key decision maker in asset level medical communication strategies and implementation.

  • Owns Medical Communication initiatives, ensuring quality and timely delivery against medical plans.

  • Actively manages asset resourcing and budgets to ensure quality and timely delivery against medical communication plans and that the asset’s budget stays on track of financial targets.

  • Proactively interfaces with cross-functional teams to provide scientific leadership and technical expertise across a disease state area, contributing to launch and life-cycle management of a medical unit.

  • Owns, drives, and prioritizes diverse medical communication tactics related to core content (e.g. slide decks), scientific communication platforms (SCP), HCP education (e.g. symposia), congress activities (e.g. medical booth), digital initiatives (e.g. webinars), and communication planning (e.g. integrated communications plans).

  • Solution-oriented approach to inefficacies and organizational challenges that contributes to continuous improvement through identifying newer standards and industry trends.

  • Advises Group Lead on methods to elevate performance of goals and delivery of medical communications plans.

  • Mentorship or matrix management of global medical communications colleagues, fellows, and other team members.

Conduct medical aspects of Material Review and Approval

  • Work with Legal and Regulatory colleagues to resolve questions and provide leadership in concept design and approval of promotional and non-promotional materials.

Additional Aspects of the Role:

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Subject matter expert in core Medical Communications deliverables (scientific platform, lexicon, core slide decks, communication plan, etc) and can independently drive updates/revisions to these materials.

  • Scientific and technical expertise of the assigned therapeutic area(s)/product(s).

Leadership

  • Cross-functional leader and influential decision maker that has direct impact on assets and functions.

  • Owns GMC plan for assigned asset(s) and able to work with GPT, LOCs, MCE, Region/LOCs, and Medical Strategy team to effectively prioritize activities encompassing a diverse range of assets in line with global asset strategy.

  • Proactively creates and implements sub-strategies to enable promotion of GMA vision.

Decision-making and Autonomy

  • Accountable for designing and implementing vision and strategy for designated scope.

  • Drives the tactical execution of the mature brands scientific vision and mission.

  • Owns asset level strategies being implemented.

  • Consistently seeks input from multiple constituents and stakeholders to drive innovative solutions.

  • Consistently incorporates feedback and follow up quickly to support swift decision-making and to support flawless execution.

  • Consistently identifies when decisions need to be escalated.

  • Proactively identifies risks and propose alternative solutions.

Interaction

  • Leads engagement with internal key stakeholders (e.g. Global Medical Affairs, MCE, Region/LOCs, MPD, Global Outcomes Research and Epidemiology [GEO], and Publications) as needed.

  • Creates an internal and external sphere of influence in area of expertise (e.g. networking and speaking at professional conferences).

  • Mentorship or matrix management of fellows and GMC colleagues.

Innovation

  • Identifies and implements new innovative approaches and leverages fit-for-purpose methods.

  • Proactively identifies Medical Communications innovations as appropriate.

Complexity

  • Requires working across different franchises within the therapeutic area as needed.

Education, Behavioral Competencies, and Skills:

  • A relevant healthcare degree is required. A medical or scientific degree (MD, PharmD, PhD, RN, MSc, etc.) is preferred.

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, preferably within a matrix structure and medical affairs roles (e.g. Medical Science Liaison, Medical Information, Medical Communications, Medical Education, Publications) for candidates with doctoral degree.

  • Strong collaborator able to inspire teamwork.

  • Critical thinker able to understand complex scenarios and focus on priorities.

  • Good knowledge of medical communication approaches and best practices.

  • Familiarity with international regulatory and legal guidelines regarding medical communication strategy and execution.

  • Up to 20% travel for congresses and offsite meetings may be required.

  • Previous experience in mature brands is a plus.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$149,100.00 - $234,300.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
