Job Description

About the role:
The Medical Safety - M.D., Director is responsible for guiding safety assessments and medical reviews to ensure the safety of pharmaceutical products. This role supports clinical development by providing critical safety insights and guidance, contributing to the overall mission of Takeda.

How you will contribute:

  • Guide safety assessments and medical reviews

  • Navigate complex regulatory compliance requirements in pharmaceutical safety

  • Apply expert risk management strategies to mitigate potential safety issues

  • Lead safety surveillance initiatives, including data analysis and safety signal detection

  • Provide critical safety insights and guidance to support clinical development

  • Strategically guide and mentor the safety team

  • Facilitate team collaboration to enhance performance and project success


Skills and qualifications:

  • Possesses deep medical knowledge and expertise, capable of guiding safety assessments and medical reviews

  • Advanced understanding of regulatory compliance requirements in pharmaceutical safety, able to navigate complex regulatory landscapes

  • Applies expert risk management strategies to mitigate potential safety issues associated with pharmaceutical products

  • Leads safety surveillance initiatives, adept at data analysis and safety signal detection

  • Supports clinical development by providing critical safety insights and guidance

  • Demonstrates leadership by strategically guiding and mentoring the safety team

  • Skilled in strategic planning with the ability to anticipate and mitigate challenges in pharmaceutical safety

  • Facilitates team collaboration, enhancing team performance and project success

  • Solves complex safety-related problems with innovative and effective solutions

  • Communicates effectively with all levels of management and cross-functional teams

  • Provides mentoring and development opportunities to team members, enhancing their professional growth


As a recognized expert within Takeda globally, you possess in-depth expertise in your discipline and broad knowledge across related areas. You're adept at anticipating internal/external challenges, recommending improvements, and solving unique, far-reaching business problems. Your role involves working on abstract issues, assessing intangible variables, contributing to global Business/Functional strategy, and serving as the primary contact for contracts and operations, conducting briefings and meetings with top management and customers. Operating with significant autonomy in a complex environment, you also lead project teams to achieve milestones and objectives.

This position is currently classified as “hybrid” in accordance with Takeda’s Hybrid and Remote Work policy.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$237,200.00 - $372,790.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
