Join Takeda’s Rare Disease Sales Team
A Career with Purpose
Rare sleep disorders can rob people of everyday moments most of us take for granted – staying awake at work, driving safely, caring for their children. These are not small luxuries; they are the building blocks of a dignified life.
Here, we’re building a dedicated Sleep Disorders franchise, grounded in more than two centuries of science and values‑led decision‑making, to help change that story.
As part of our Rare Disease Business Manager and Regional Business Leader teams, you’ll represent a potential first‑in‑class therapy, work within a deeply collaborative matrix model, and carry the voice of patients into every conversation. If you’re driven by purpose, committed to impact, and ready to grow in a culture built on trust and heritage, this is your moment.
Leaders with Experience
Leaders like Crystal and Jim are proof that breadth is valued here. Both value the investment Takeda has made in their development and feel a strong sense of responsibility to “pay it forward” to new talent.
Impact That's Personal And Collaborative
For Crystal, our mission is personal. Her son was diagnosed with narcolepsy type 1 when he was 12. Her family was fortunate to find informed physicians and support, but she knows many families are not. “We have an obligation,” she says, “to provide excellent education and resources that truly meet the needs of this community.”
In Takeda’s Sleep Disorders franchise, Rare Disease Business Managers and Regional Business Leaders translate that obligation into action. You’ll help physicians understand new science, navigate access, and identify the right patients. And over time, you’ll hear what we believe will be the most meaningful feedback of all: “My patient can finally stay awake. They kept their job. They can drive again. Their life has changed.”
That is the impact we’re pursuing together.
We work through local matrix teams that bring together Rare Disease Business Managers, Regional Business Leaders, Key Account Managers, Field Access Specialists, Patient Services, Clinical Educators and more. Each person brings a different expertise. Together, we show up as one Takeda for every account and every patient.
Crystal summarizes the mindset this way: “You don’t own the customer; you own your role with the customer.” That means leaving titles and territory lines at the door, and focusing instead on how we collectively support the patient journey. It might look like a clinical educator helping a care team understand dosing and monitoring, a field access manager resolving a coverage barrier, and you guiding the overall strategy with the physician – all within clear, compliant guardrails.
Our teams excel when we communicate often, share insights generously, and build joint plans. We anticipate each other’s needs and those of their customers. We act with urgency, but also with humility, recognizing that no single function can deliver the full experience a rare disease patient deserves.
If you’re energized by complex, cross‑functional work and motivated by working along bright colleagues with a shared mission, you’ll find yourself at home in our one-team approach. Read more about what motivates our people by heading to our employee stories.
Key Capabilities
“Success on our Sleep Disorders sales team starts with professionalism and integrity”, says Jim. From there, it’s a blend of capabilities and mindset. On the capability side, we look for people who bring:
- Strong clinical aptitude and comfort with complex, evolving science
- A strategic approach to territory and account planning
- Proven ability to collaborate across functions and adapt to change
- A track record of sustained results in specialty or rare disease environments
People-First Mindset
But it’s the mindset that truly differentiates the excellent from the average. The people who thrive here have a clear sense of purpose and what Jim calls “fire in the belly.” They are:
- Gritty and resilient, prepared for the long game of rare disease work
- Bold and thoughtfully disruptive, willing to challenge old patterns on behalf of patients
- Deeply empathetic, always listening for the lived reality behind the clinical description
- Team‑first in how they define success, taking pride in what the matrix achieves together
Growth That You Own
“When it comes to career growth, you own it. We as leaders are here to help guide, advise, push you think differently, make connections, but ultimately you as the employee you own your career growth.” Jim Shares.
Within the sales team and across Takeda, there are many ways paths you can follow. Some colleagues choose to deepen their expertise in‑role, progressing through defined career pathways as Rare Disease Business Managers or Regional Business Leaders and taking on expanded responsibilities over time.
Others explore adjacent roles that tap into different strengths: key account management, field access, patient services, training, or brand and marketing roles. For those drawn to people leadership, there are opportunities to move into district, area, or national leadership positions, supported by formal leadership development programs.
Along the way, you can also take on field lead roles (for example, as a brand, training, or business lead for your peers) or short‑term project and interim assignments that broaden your experience without requiring a permanent move.
