Job Title: Public Affairs Lead

Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

About the role:

This role will be an integral member of our Public Affairs and Communications team and together with the Takeda cross functional business units will lead the day-to-day responsibilities of planning and executing our engagement with public affairs and advocacy stakeholders to help improve the lives of people living with chronic disease through shaping Federal and State healthcare policy.

How you will contribute:

Principal Accountabilities

  • Takes an active role in shaping the Healthcare environment by advocacy and networking activities with National / Regional Health Systems, government,
  • influencers to optimize the institutional environment in order to contribute to the company's growth by doing the following:
  • Monitors legislative and political environment, in order to identify early enough threats and opportunities for the business,
  • Defines an adequate strategy including stakeholder mapping, reach out plan, and outcomes and KPI in line with corporate compliance guidelines,
  • Build up coalitions with other stakeholders (other pharma companies, ...).
  • Represents Company by ensuring the right level of leadership in trade association,
  • Manages a team directly or indirectly Influences government policies such as price controls, patent related legislations in order to promote and safeguard the business interests of the organization.
  • Builds strong influence networks with all types of stakeholders and act in the interests of Company towards local stakeholders.
  • Anticipates and interpret the institutional evolutions and inform the relevant internal audiences.
  • As an expert, takes part in the strategic thoughts of the company in giving insights concerning the institutional environment.
  • Manages and coordinates the market access levers in order to sustain the Company strategy, especially in the following fields : brand communication, media communication, pharmaco economics and pricing/reimbursement.
  • Overseas media, brand and internal communication activities.
  • Implement the Public Affairs strategic plans to build Takeda image as an active participant in raising the standards of care in KSA.
  • Drive public affairs tactical initiatives to support market access for Takeda portfolio
  • Represent the company's strategic policies and guidelines, aligned with the local regulations.
  • Monitor and document external changes and trends (including policy change and competitor activities). Use information to identify risks and/or opportunities and propose strategic response actions
  • Contribute to Health Authorities perception of Takeda as a leader in innovative therapies and Health care support and a financially, socially, and environmentally responsible company
  • Ensure full compliance with business ethics and quality systems and procedures

Purpose and subject of interaction with internal & external customers and key contacts:

Independently and through support to colleagues, the role will seek to:

  • Serve as company representative on public affairs-related issues in industry and trade associations
  • Contribute effectively in external meetings, conferences and relevant Takeda meetings (local, national or regional level)
  • Develop and implement innovative MAPA initiatives and tools (incl. best-practice sharing to improve business across affiliate, business area and region

Major Challenges

  • Key influencer and lobbyist.
  • Highly credible and influential to the Board & senior ministers in government & external agencies.
  • Very good knowledge of, on one hand, local and global regulatory, pharmaceutical environment and its business model and, on the other hand, institutions and their running systems

  • Geographical span: Saudi Arabia, West Gulf.

What you bring to Takeda:

Educational Qualification

  • A university degree preferably in health, business, science or public health/policy related area.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with external stakeholders such as Government, trade associations, policy groups and patient organizations. Strong social skills and ability to enable effective relationships locally, across a global organization and with external agencies and partners.
  • Business acumen, ability to work collaboratively on project execution with a variety of internal/external stakeholders and has excellent project management and communication skills.
  • Saudi Nationality Preferable

Relevant Experience

  • Experience planning and executing public affairs strategies in pharmaceutical/health care from consultancy or industry and with a good understanding of the Saudi health system.

Skills & Behavioural Competencies

  • Excellent communication& presentation skills in English language (contractual clarity included)
  • Proven record in building and maintaining trust relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical skills, Microsoft Office Excel with certification is an advantage
  • Result-oriented and able to deliver in volatile surroundings with tight deadlines and showing flexibility when dealing with unpredicted conditions while being compliant to local and corporate requirements
  • Independent, trustworthy, collaborative, just-do-it attitude, communicative & positive mind-set team player
  • Effective people management skills for leading managers
  • Ability to review and analyse business and medical data
  • Project management skills and experience
  • Crisis management skills and experience
  • Ability to work competently in software programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work well in both a team environment and independently
