About the role:


The Head of the Japan Oncology Business Unit (JOBU) is responsible for

shaping and executing Takeda’s One Oncology strategy in Japan. This role leads all regional aspects of the business, including commercial operations, medical

affairs, market access, and new product planning — with a clear focus on delivering meaningful outcomes for patients and fostering a purpose-driven, inclusive culture for employees. The leader will ensure the business unit operates with excellence, agility, and integrity, driving sustainable growth while keeping patients at the heart of every decision. This leader will report to the President of Global Oncology Business Unit (GOBU), will be a member of the Oncology Leadership Team (OLT), and will be an extended member of the Japan Business Unit (JPBU) leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Patient-Centered Leadership

  • Define and implement the Japan Oncology strategy, ensuring alignment with the Takeda One Oncology Strategy and local patient needs.
  • Champion a patient-first mindset across all functions, ensuring that strategies and decisions reflect the lived experiences of those impacted by cancer.
  • Represent Japan Oncology in global forums, educating on and advocating for the unique needs of Japanese patients and Oncology healthcare stakeholders.

Commercial Excellence

  • Lead the forecasting and performance of the marketed portfolio through innovative sales and marketing strategies.
  • Drive data-driven decision-making and digital transformation to enhance engagement and impact, embracing AI and automation to optimize and realize organizational efficiencies.
  • Ensure commercial strategies are ethical, compliant, and aligned with long-term value creation for patients and the healthcare system.

Medical Affairs & Patient Access

  • Oversee regional medical strategy and scientific engagement to support evidence generation and clinical excellence for Japan, aligning to the Global Oncology Medical strategy.
  • Lead pricing and market access strategies that prioritize equitable patient access and long-term affordability, in alignment with the Global Pricing Value and Access strategy.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to shape a healthcare environment that supports innovation and patient outcomes.

Pipeline & Launch Readiness

  • Lead cross-functional new product planning and execution for late-stage pipeline and in-licensed assets, ensuring launch readiness and organizational alignment.
  • Oversee the integration of patient insights and local market dynamics into global launch strategies.
  • Build capabilities to support successful product introductions, forecasting and lifecycle management.

People & Culture

  • Inspire and develop a high-performing, diverse, and inclusive team culture rooted in purpose and collaboration.
  • Foster psychological safety, continuous learning, and a sense of belonging across the organization.
  • Actively mentor and nurture talent, ensuring succession planning and leadership continuity.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant industry experience, with an emphasis on organizational leadership of broad commercial and medical functions
  • Minimum education of gakushi/bachelor’s degree; advanced educational achievement desirable
  • Proficient in verbal and written Japanese and Business English
  • Track record of strategic planning, with a strong ability to develop and execute effective regional strategies
  • Experienced in leading diversely skilled teams, fostering a collaborative and goal-oriented environment
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement, able to build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Comprehensive understanding of unique Oncology dynamics and their impact on company strategies
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to make critical decisions that positively impact Takeda and Takeda Oncology’s direction
  • Experienced in change management, capable of leading the organization through significant changes and challenges
  • Role model for digital disruption, championing the innovative application of emerging tools and technologies to realize improved performance and efficiency

Takeda Compensation and Benefits Summary:

  • Allowances: Commutation, Housing, Overtime Work etc.

  • Salary Increase: Annually, Bonus Payment: Twice a year

  • Working Hours: Headquarters (Osaka/ Tokyo) 9:00-17:30, Production Sites (Osaka/ Yamaguchi) 8:00-16:45, (Narita) 8:30-17:15, Research Site (Kanagawa) 9:00-17:45

  • Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, May Day, Year-End Holidays etc. (approx. 123 days in a year)
