OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

•    Visualize, standardize, and optimize the R&D administrations across supported business areas by identifying improvement opportunities and designing efficient workflows that drive process excellence.
•    Conduct As-Is and To-Be process analysis to propose and implement actionable improvements, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational realities.
•    Leverage digital tools such as Microsoft 365 and Power Platform to develop, maintain, and continuously enhance streamlined and scalable processes that improve productivity and transparency.
•    Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment to ensure smooth implementation of process changes and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Our mission is to contribute to building a safe, autonomous, and effortlessly productive environment where R&D Japan employees can focus on their projects and research work, by providing operational processes and site management guidelines as a platform that supports research and development activities.

In this role, you will be responsible for the following key areas:

•    Operational Process Optimization
Visualize operations across each business area supported by SMO, identify opportunities for improvement, and streamline processes to achieve process excellence.

•    Digital Tool Development and Management
Design, develop and manage digital tools using Microsoft Office 365 and Power Platform to enhance operational efficiency.
•    Outsourcing Transition
Identify outsourcing opportunities within existing processes, define detailed procedures, and ensure a smooth transition to external partners.
•    Team Operations Support
Provide logistical and administrative support to ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the SMO team, including coordination of internal initiatives and documentation.

CORE ELEMENTS RELATED TO THIS ROLE

•    Ability to plan and execute initiatives effectively, including task scheduling, milestone tracking, and issue/risk management to ensure timely and quality delivery. Also requires an expertise to translate the business requirements into high-level system design as well as fundamental understanding of data modeling, database design, low-code application development.
•    In addition, the role demands a strong capability to visualize, standardize, and optimize operational processes across SMO-supported business areas. Candidates should be adept at conducting As-Is/To-Be analysis, identifying improvement opportunities, and implementing scalable solutions using digital tools such as Microsoft 365 and Power Platform.
•    Success in this position also hinges on the ability to facilitate cross-functional collaboration, navigate complex stakeholder environments, and respond with agility to organizational and operational changes. A proactive mindset and a commitment to contributing to team growth and long-term organizational excellence are essential.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

•    Education: MBA and/or BS/BA degree in a relevant discipline are required.
•    Professional Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in back-office / business operations and their optimization with a strong track record of leading cross-functional initiatives and delivering measurable business improvements, or in closely related areas.
•    Project & Process Management: 5+ years of experience in project management or business process redesign, optimization, and analytics
•    Digital Transformation: 3+ years of end-to-end project experience in digitalization or system implementation, covering the full lifecycle from requirements definition to deployment, including the creation of specialized deliverables (User Requirement Specification, Functional Specification, etc.)
•    Technical Skills: Proven experience in data model design, supported by fundamental knowledge of databases and data warehouses, ETL processes, and SQL. Experience in developing solutions with Microsoft Power Platform and familiarity with DAX is preferred.
•    Industry Experience: 3+ years of experiencein back-office operations within R&D functions of a pharmaceutical or other manufacturing industry either as an employee or as a vendor is  preferred. 
•    Strategic & Collaborative Mindset: Demonstrated ability to think strategically, adapt to evolving business needs, and work effectively in global, cross-cultural environments by fostering collaboration and navigating diverse perspectives.
•    Core Competencies: Excellent organizational, operational, and communication skills, combined with a growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
•    Language: Native-level proficiency in Japanese and fluency in English is essential. 

•    Education: MBAおよび/または関連分野の学士号(BS/BA)が必須

•    Digital Transformation: 3年以上のデジタル化やシステム導入に関するエンドツーエンドのプロジェクト経験(要件定義から導入までのライフサイクル全体をカバーし、ユーザー要件仕様書や機能仕様書などの専門的な成果物の作成を含む)
•    Technical Skills: データモデル設計の実務経験、データベースやデータウェアハウス、ETLプロセス、SQLに関する基礎知識(Microsoft Power Platformでのソリューション開発経験およびDAXの知識があれば尚可)
•    Industry Experience: 製薬業界またはその他の製造業におけるR&D部門のバックオフィス業務に関する3年以上の経験(社員またはベンダーとして)が望ましい
