Job Description

OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE:

The Senior Product Manager role involves aligning business and technology stakeholders to develop and communicate a portfolio of (or larger products) product vision, managing product planning and backlog prioritization, and ensuring a sustainable end-to-end customer experience globally. This position reports to the Head of Design & Delivery and operates within the Development & Regulatory DD&T organization, supporting Global Development and Global Regulatory business functions.

  • Product Strategy and Vision: Develops and conveys product(s) strategy and vision in collaboration with stakeholders, aligning with business goals and technology directions. Maintains and communicates the product roadmap and backlog to ensure team alignment and delivery of value.  

  • AI Native – Consistently challenge how processes and therefore products can evolve to exploit AI and drive towards the workforce and products of the future.  

  • Technical and Leadership Expertise: Requires understanding of clinical trial delivery and/or Regulatory processes, product management in pharmaceutical R&D, and the ability to bridge business and technical teams. Collaborates with product engineers and designers to support a modern product ecosystem.  

  • Qualifications and Skills: Prefers a bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline, computer science, or business administration, with at least seven (7) years of experience in R&D, IT service delivery, or related areas. Emphasizes stakeholder management, design thinking, and excellent communication skills.  

  • Align with key stakeholders across business and technology to develop and convey product vision

  • Own product planning, including short-term release plans and long-term roadmaps

  • Drive prioritization of the product backlog to keep the team unblocked and aligned

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Solicits information from IT Business Partners or from Business Stakeholders on business direction, goals and strategies to inform development of  product strategies. Collaborates effectively with technology delivery teams to develop roadmap for new and ongoing product development. Builds and maintains the product backlog with the technical team.

  • Continuously prioritizes the work in the backlog to deliver the most significant value to the product users.

  • Facilitates and drive alignments among key stakeholders to develop product strategy, vision, and roadmap to support business strategy.

  • Works within product budget established in consultation with stakeholders by balancing resources, vision development, and prototyping, and sustain product teams to deliver and maintain the product.

  • Maintains- and serves as the communicator- of the product vision.

  • Continually monitors and refines the product and performing service management

  • Optimizes user experience.

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise:

  • Understands the language the product teams use to conduct the business of the team, and is conversant with all the tools and techniques required to communicate with and send work to a team.

  • Ability to operate within — the domains of any core technologies that the product requires to deliver capabilities (artificial intelligence or machine learning, for example) if required

  • Is effective in translating technical language into business language as needed to bridge the gap between business and technical professionals engaged in the full product value stream

  • Understands the business processes supported by the product and able to communicate with the relevant R&D teams

Leadership:

  • Collaborate effectively with Product Engineers, Business System Owners, Solution Architecture and other stakeholders on a Ecosystem of Products, Platforms, Analytics and Microservices to give Takeda a modern footprint. 

Decision-making and Autonomy:

  • Ability to evaluate and recommend the right technology platforms and software products to solve business problems. 

Interaction:

  • Embeds with product teams as needed to ensure full transparency and no surprises, keeping product stakeholders up to date with the latest on delivery status, product risks andscope changes.

  • Reconciles perspectives on product strategy and priorities into a consensus that all stakeholders can support

Innovation:

  • Stay on top of new trends in the industry and understand how these new technologies may be applied to the product roadmap.

Complexity:

  • Is effective at conveying the product vision and other messages requiring action, in a way that brings people on board with the vision and builds their enthusiasm about fulfilling it

  • When required to evangelize the vision into target communities or ecosystems, is effective in representing the product or platform within that community in a way that ensures all ecosystem partners feel heard, and well-served by the product vision.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor Degree in scientific discipline, computer science or business administration is preferred, but not required.

  • 7 years or more professional experience in R&D business lines, IT service delivery or related area. Familiarity working in a lean and agile software delivery team is preferred.

  • Professional in-depth knowledge of product management in pharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience in stakeholder relationship management. Influential in orchestrating key stakeholders and product teams to turn product vision into reality.

  • Strong understanding of Clinical Trial Delivery and/or Regulatory Affairs/Operations business processes and supporting technology platforms

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, business acumen, and enterprise knowledge.  

  • Minimum: Understands design thinking

  • Nice to have: Is an accomplished practitioner of design thinking, with a proven track record of developing and exploiting deep customer insights

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$137,000.00 - $215,270.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
