Job Description
Controller, Canada
Job Purpose
This position will transform the local approach to financial controlling and lead the financial control and compliance position capabilities. Via the adoption of digital tools and emerging technologies—including automation, data analytics, and AI— transform the process environment of enhancement effectiveness, streamlined processes, and data-driven decision-making all within the controlling/financial compliance/controls areas of operations. Post transformation the position will oversee the multiple technology enabled processes as an owner/manager of the transformed transactional and digitally standardized process. The role will evolve to focus on the organisational transformation to controlling and financial compliance, elevation of capabilities, development and implementation of new digitally enhanced program models.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Controlling
- Oversee financial reporting processes. Ensure that all financial reports are accurate, timely, and comply with regulatory requirements, including SOX compliance.
- Oversee the transformation of the existing approach to controlling, period close, control testing, monitoring and transactional duties within financial controlling.
- Develop strategies leveraging AI and technologies to create a digital transformation for the future while adapting to changes in the financial control environment.
- Manage and oversee transfer pricing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with international regulations and optimize tax efficiency supporting Global Tax.
- Leverage AI or other technology-enabled tools to support financial controlling and compliance and real-time monitoring of financial transactions.
- Coordinate company-wide compliance with SOX, SOD, and internal control requirements across key financial processes (e.g., reporting, purchasing, inventory)
- Oversee financial aspects of facilities management and fleet operations, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficiency in managing company assets and employing digital automation where possible.
Financial Compliance, Risk Management and Internal Policies
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. Ensure alignment on updates to relevant laws, regulations. Implement necessary changes.
- Partner with Ethics & Compliance to embed ethical decision-making and PTRB principles.
- Lead plans with digital enhancement and transformation to ensure timely remediation of audit findings and changes to internal controls procedures.
- Promote AI and analytics for predictive risk monitoring.
- Collaborate with regional finance teams on AI-enabled compliance solutions.
Finance Operations & Team Management
- Manage and mentor a team of finance professionals. Provide guidance and support to team members to help them achieve their professional goals.
- Collaborate with other departments or EUCAN Region to support overall business objectives including working closely with teams ensuring financial goals are met.
- Lead business process reengineering to enable digital transformation.
- Advise on interdependencies between finance and non-finance digital initiatives.
Key Performance Indicators
- Timely and accurate period end process.
- Corporate Financial Controls (CFC) deliverables & SOX 302/404 attestations.
- High training completion and control owner engagement.
- Successful execution of transformation projects.
Education & Experience
- University degree in Economics, Business, related and designation such as CPA
- Advanced data analytics and AI/ML tool experience with digital transformation leadership
- Cybersecurity and digital risk management
- 10+ years in finance and 4+ years with proficiency in SOX frameworks and internal controls.
- Experience with finance automation, system integration, and AI in compliance.
Technical & Digital Competencies
- Cross-functional digital collaboration
- Deep AI/ML literacy and experience with digital ethics and governance
- Agile project management with a continuous learning mindset.
- Ability to evaluate and implement AI, automation, and analytics tools.
