Japan Lead,Multilateral Affairs

Takeda is a patient-focused, values-based, R&D-driven global biopharmaceutical company committed to bringing Better Health and a Brighter Future to people worldwide.Our passion and pursuit of potentially life-changing treatments for patients are deeplyrooted in over 240 years of distinguished history in Japan, and Takeda haspresence in approximately 80 countries and regions with 30 manufacturing sites and 3 researchsites.Global Public Affairs (GPA)isa critical pillar of Global Corporate Affairs (GCA) withresponsibility for engaging global policy stakeholders to advancepatient-centered policy solutions to accelerate global, equitable access to Takeda’sinnovative life-transformingmedicines and vaccines.The Multilateral Affairs team in GPA isresponsible for the development and execution of Takeda’smultilateral engagement strategy, optimization of international trade association engagement, andfacilitation ofengagement with ourlocaloperating company (LOC)on key global policy topics.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

We are seeking anintellectually curious, team-oriented leader with recognized expertise in international public policy. Ideal candidate will be a highly effective strategic thinker and tactical implementer with a history of delivering results in the policy arena. The candidate must possess business acumen and understand the intersection of business, economic, and policy issues on an international scaleThe successful candidate will have outstanding judgment to make decisions that are good for Takeda’s patients, builds trust with society, reinforce our reputation, and help develop a sustainable businessThe successful candidate will be very substantive, possess strong cultural acumen, and be very adept in a multitude of environments with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and constituencies. The candidate must have the organizational acumen necessary to thrive in a cross-functional role in a highly matrixed organization. The candidate must have the service-mentality and consensus-building skills necessary to work in a corporate function with multiple business partners who may have different perspectives and needs. While we seek candidates who possess self-confidence, it must be balanced with humility and knowledge of their own strengths and limitations. The successful candidate will also have a sense of humor, will be able to be self-deprecatory, and will see the lighter side of difficult situations.

Japan Lead,Multilateral Affairs will:

  • Lead development and implementation of advocacy strategy with Japan-based stakeholders in support of ourmultilateralengagement strategy.

  • Lead engagement with Asia-basedLOCs on international policy issues.Contribute to the global Takeda public affairs community to share best practices facilitate capability building initiatives in growth and emerging markets.

  • Facilitate high-level engagement with priorityforeigndignitaries to Global HQ in Tokyo and coordinatesenior executive meetings with Japanese Government officialson international topics.

  • Collaborate with the Japan Public Affairs teamon engagement with Japan PharmaceuticalManufacturers Association (JPMA) on international topics.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluency in Japanese andEnglish.

  • Master’s or relevant advanced degree.

  • Accomplished professional with at least 10 years of experience in relevant fields (government affairs, public policy, international relations,communications,market access, patient advocacyand/or business strategy). 

  • Experience working in or with the pharmaceutical sector, medical device, and/or other health sector on international policy issues.

  • Superior interpersonal and leadership skills in relevant business environments.

  • Willing and able to work in adynamicenvironment and possess an innovative spirit.

  • Effective in collaborating with people at alllevels of an organization and willing to contributewhereverneeded, providing support to operational activities aswellasstaffing senior executives.

  • Strong indirect people management skills and experience.

  • Excellent writing and communications skills with the strong ability to develop new, innovative ways to influence people in arapidlychangingenvironment.

  • Ability to traveldomestically and internationally.

  • Understanding of political and policy dynamics on international topics in Japan is preferred.

  • Understanding of therole key governments (e.g., US, EU, Japan) play in influencingthe operatingenvironment of the innovative pharmaceuticalsector is preferred.

Takeda Compensation and Benefits Summary:

  • Allowances: Commutation, Housing, Overtime Work etc.

  • Salary Increase: Annually, Bonus Payment: Twice a year

  • Working Hours: Headquarters (Osaka/ Tokyo) 9:00-17:30, Production Sites (Osaka/ Yamaguchi) 8:00-16:45, (Narita) 8:30-17:15, Research Site (Kanagawa) 9:00-17:45

  • Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, May Day, Year-End Holidays etc. (approx. 123 days in a year)

  • Paid Leaves: Annual Paid Leave, Special Paid Leave, Sick Leave, Family Support Leave, Maternity Leave, Childcare Leave, Family Nursing Leave.
