Job Description

About the role:

As an expert professional within the organization, you develop innovative solutions to complex problems aligned with organizational objectives. Your work involves addressing intricate issues, requiring in-depth analysis and judgment. You also engage with key contacts outside your expertise area and contribute to the development of new concepts and standards. Operating with considerable autonomy, you serve as a consultant to management and an external spokesperson on major matters, often working independently and leading function teams or projects. Additionally, you play a role in training and mentoring junior staff.

Key Accountabilities:

In-Field Medical Excellence

  • Coordinate and, where possible, harmonise in-field medical excellence activities to ensure best practices and consistency across teams.
  • Attend multiple HCP meetings per year alongside in-field Medical Affairs professionals (both in person and remotely), providing coaching and real-time support to develop and elevate the quality of HCP interactions.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, observation, and tailored skill development to field teams during and after HCP engagements.
  • Partner with field medical teams to optimise insights, reporting, and analytics; harmonise field KPIs and oversee measurement through the effective use of dashboards.
  • Design, implement, or support programmes for continuous improvement of in-field performance.
  • Champion the importance of in-field medical activity, empowering Medical Affairs professionals to effectively prioritise and maximise the impact of their field engagements.

Medical Skills and Capabilities Development

  • Conduct needs assessments and capability mapping for Medical Affairs professionals to identify skill gaps and training needs.
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate targeted learning interventions, onboarding programs, and continuous professional development resources.
  • Lead and exemplify the enhancement of digital and innovative capabilities within Medical Affairs, promoting digital literacy, best practice sharing, and the adoption of emerging tools and technologies—including digital medicine, AI solutions, and collaborative platforms (MS Teams, CRM)—to drive operational impact.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, digital curiosity, and skill progression through mentoring, workshops, and engagement in industry trends.

Operational Excellence & Process Innovation

  • Partner with Medical Affairs systems owners (e.g., Veeva, Marv, CRM) to drive system adoption and training, supporting audits and compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional business partners to define, initiate, and implement strategic projects and continuous improvement activities.
  • Serve as the main local contact for Medical Excellence and Operations (EUCAN/Global), supporting alignment and effective project delivery.
  • Participate in or lead internal strategic meetings, supporting efficient resource coordination and follow-up on agreed actions.
  • Build strong internal and external networks to leverage best practice, identify partnership opportunities, and capitalise on data-driven innovation.

Content Excellence

  • Identify, promote, and implement best practices in medical content creation and multi-channel dissemination to optimise stakeholder engagement and maintain consistency of scientific messaging.
  • Collaborate closely with global and regional Medical Excellence and Scientific Teams (MEST) to share impactful locally generated content, championing MCO-led initiatives that demonstrate local innovation and have potential for broader adoption across regions.

Key Requirements:

  • Relevant degree in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine, or related discipline. Advanced degree desirable.
  • Significant experience in Medical Affairs or related functions within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven track record of capability development, adult learning/training, or operational excellence roles—ideally within a matrix structure.
  • Strong project leadership, change management, and problem-solving skills in cross-functional/global environments.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, platforms, and collaborative technologies; experience delivering digital transformation is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Other Information:

  • This is a non-line management position; influence and leadership are exercised through collaboration, persuasion, and expertise.
  • This role covers both UK & Ireland
  • Some travel (domestic and/or international) may be required.
