Job Description
Job purpose
To support the assigned business units in developing and implementing the strategy for all patient advocacy, access, pricing and reimbursement activity, policy & public affairs, communications: to implement pricing and market access (P&MA) strategies for assigned business units, drugs or brands and to achieve optimal market access on price and reimbursement status, to prepare and submit relevant market access submissions (dossiers for HTA, prices, negotiations); to build relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers in order to facilitate bringing new medicines to market consistently and efficiently; to collaborate with patient organizations, harboring a better environment for patients; to communicate internally and externally, as relevant.
Role description & accountabilities
P&MA
- Develops and implements the P&MA strategy and operational plan for assigned business units, medicines or brands;
- Supports the Head of Patient Value and Access in defining P&MA requirements for new and existing products;
- Implements Global Pricing Strategies, SOPs and rebates and obtains approvals, accurately reflecting the local environment;
- Develops assumptions of price and economic measures for strategic plans and budgets, etc.;
Patient advocacy
- Develops and implements patient advocacy strategy and activities across country to support improved patient outcomes and enhance Takeda’s trust and reputation;
- Positions Takeda as a recognized patient centric company in assigned therapeutic areas (TAs);
Public Affairs & Communications
- Develops communication strategies to effectively convey Takeda’s positions on issues under assigned TAs;
- Manages internal and external communications on their respective assigned areas;
- Has a deep understanding of products’ societal and economic impacts, and is able to engage in trust-based conversations with key regulators and Health Authorities.
- Advocates for Takeda’s interests in public policy discussions in alignment with company goals;
- Drafts press releases, policy briefs, and position statements;
- Works closely with internal departments such as Legal, Regulatory Affairs and Medical to ensure consistent public affairs strategies;
- Coordinates with global public affairs teams to ensure alignment with international policies and regulations.
Operational delivery
- Develops and implements high quality P&MA plans for assigned business units, medicines or brands.
- Provides leadership team and cross functional teams with insight and analyses regarding country economics, legislative context and stakeholder relevance for products and therapies; Monitors and analyzes relevant public policy developments and regulatory changes.
- Prepares P&MA submissions/value dossiers to relevant regulatory authorities.
- Leads, prioritizes and motivates the activities of cross-functional resources in support of P&MA plans, as per case-to-case
- Supports the Head of Patient Value and Access in identifying and analyzing key stakeholders or legislative developments for new and existing products.
- Recognizes access barriers and develops mitigation plans to secure access for patients.
- Supports development of studies and clinical planning based on access needs and priorities.
- Co-ordinates input on P&MA plans with the Head of Patient Value and Access to relevant partners in the Takeda Regional and Global P&MA organizations.
- Builds networks and strong relationships with key customers and contributes to the correct positioning and messaging of Takeda products.
- Develops positive relationships with relevant government officials, key opinion leaders (KOLs) and payer decision makers.
- Identifies and communicates changes and trends in the local legislative environment to support access.
- Runs analyses of product positioning scenarios, their probability of success and their quantification.
- Analyzes the challenges and needs of payers relative to the product, their decision- making criteria and their stakeholders.
- Analyzes the regulatory/competitive price and pricing strategy of competitors.
- Prepares tools and supporting materials for negotiation teams
- Adapts Global healthcare economics models to accurately reflect local environments
- Maximizes revenue for marketed products across the portfolio through insight into Country P&R schemes
- Co-ordinates the collection of all required information from marketing, medical, business development, outcomes research and regulatory, needed for appropriate reimbursement submissions of our products in a timely manner.
- Participates actively in trade associations and relevant working groups to support access to innovation
- Leads and sustains strategic partnerships with patient advocacy organizations, addressing patient needs through innovative collaborations that advance patient goals and business objectives.
- Partners with patient advocacy organizations to understand their needs and evaluate partnerships in areas of mutual interest.
- Works with non-medical stakeholders (media, NGO’s, etc.), in supporting innovative value.
- Maintains strong collaborative relationships with MCO/EUCAN (multi-country organization, Europe & Canada) Patient Advocacy team and internal cross functional colleagues to prioritize and deliver on patient advocacy functional priorities;
- Shapes and creates strategies to internalize the patient’s voice in all working activities.
- Participates in development and implementation of local CSR programs
- Leads and manages public affairs projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and within budget.
- Works with local and MCO agencies to adapt corporate external communication strategy and convey messages;
- Develops and implements effective communication strategies for our company;
- Coordinates external and internal communications flow (memos, newsletters, etc.);
- Writes content for company website and/or other media;
- Plans events, seminars and press conferences;
- Manages media inquiries and arranges interviews, statements, etc.;

Functional excellence
- Supports the development of P&MA capabilities and operational excellence for assigned TAs.
- Promotes sharing of P&MA best practices across the assigned TAs and cross country, in dedicated internal networks and groups.
Business partnering
- Establishes strong working relationships with key Takeda colleagues, including marketing, KAM, Sales, HEOR, Business Unit (BU)/business franchise (BF) Heads and Head of Medical, Finance colleagues both within the TA and cross-divisionally.
Ethics and Compliance
- Works within Ethics and Compliance policies and ensures those around him/her do the same.
- Works to ensure a diverse and inclusive environment free from all forms of discrimination and harassment.
- Drafts and submits the monthly expense statement (TER) documentation in accordance with the internal procedure;
- Has the obligation and responsibility to comply with the local Quality Assurance Policies and Procedures: product conformity and quality, reporting and escalation of quality incidents /GxP / non-conformities, escalation of activities potentially compromising product quality or the independence of quality organization, or the integrity and accuracy of documentation;
- Timely direct reporting of adverse events notified in connection with Takeda products, pursuant to relevant procedures; the report shall be sent to the company’s Patient Safety Officer or his substitute immediately following the communication of the adverse event (or within no more than 24 hours).
- Has the obligation and responsibility to comply with the company Internal Regulation and all the internal Policies and Procedures, including the rules on the occupational health check-ups and the participation to and compliance with occupational safety and emergency trainings.
- Cultivates an inclusive, high performance, patient-oriented environment that values and leverages diversity of thinking, style and experiences.
- Ensures compliance in all interactions throughout the organization and maintains regular liaison with the Global, Regional and Local compliance function, as applicable, to ensure that all processes and activities comply with internal and external policies.
Education, behavioral competencies and skills
- University Graduated - pharmacist, medical doctor, biologist, chemist, law, financial education, polytechnics – in pharma related fields Local and English mandatory, additional languages advantageous
- Proven track record and demonstrated experience in public affairs, patient advocacy relations & communications
- At least 3 years in pharma industry in Pricing or Market Access role is an advantage
- Highly-developed communication and presentation skills
- Experience managing other professionals
- Ability to engage regulators on Pharma-economic topics
- Thorough understanding of country Pharma industry and competitor products
- Excellent understanding of Pharma product P&R processes
