Job Description
The PDT R&D Organization focuses on patient-centric R&D. By advancing our understanding of plasma proteins, we are be able to predict how different patients metabolize plasma, thereby driving individualization of therapy. We investigate strategies that allow the plasma protein to more precisely target disease or remain in the body longer, and we extend the benefits of plasma-derived therapies across our portfolio.
Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Design Intern to join our PDT Device team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in designing and documenting CAD parts and assemblies. Projects will likely involve large volume infusion systems and test fixtures. Key Responsibilities are:
• Assist in the ideation and design of mechanical components using CAD software.
• Create detailed drawings following the appropriate standards.
• Manage files and metadata to Takeda’s Product Data Management (PDM) system.
• Document design activities and maintain accurate records.
• Utilize 3D printing and rapid prototyping to evaluate design appearance and functionality.
Internship Development Opportunities:
• Learn ideation process: Analyzing design requirements and developing effective solutions.
• Problem-solving skills: Troubleshooting design issues and proposing improvements.
• Gain practical experience in part design and CAD software.
• Hands-on experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
• Familiarization of industry standards for drafting and documentation, such ASME Y14.5.
• Develop skills in metadata management and PDM systems.
• Network across various teams and business units.
• Working within a team environment, enhancing collaboration and communication skills.
• Insight into the phases of device development, including concept, feasibility, development, and qualification.
• Exposure to real-world projects related to medical device and packaging development.
Job Requirements:
- This position will be Hybrid and require 2-3 days in the Lexington office per week.
- Must be Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Posses a working knowledge of SolidWorks.
- Coursework or projects in mechanical design and CAD.
- Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping is a plus.
- Working knowledge of CAD software and mechanical design principles.
- Basic understanding of computer skills including MS Office (PowerPoint, Words, Excel)
- Internet skills including use of e-mails, group messaging and information gathering
- Highly reliable and a strong team player
- Flexible with an attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Internship Eligibility
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
- Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2025 or later
- The internship program is 10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (June 2nd- August 22nd) or (June 16th - August 29th)
- The intern must be able to commit to one of these time frames
- Able to work full time 40 hours a week during internship dates
- Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support for the U.S Summer Internship Program

$21.00 - $46.00
The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level to be entered following completion of internship.The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. internship benefits vary by location and may include:
Paid sick time

Commuter Benefit: To offset your work-commute expenses, Takeda provides U.S. employees with a fixed monthly subsidy to be used for either public transportation (transit) or parking.
