Job Description
Senior Manager, Market Access and New Product Planning
Location: Toronto, ON
Reports to: Director, Market Access
Role Objective
As part of Takeda Canada’s Patient Value and Access Team, the Senior Manager, Market Access will lead the development of local market access strategies for Takeda’s flagship brand and other future pipeline products. This would include the development comprehensive reimbursement strategies and complex HTA value dossiers, generation of payer-relevant evidence, execution value demonstration initiatives, and collection of market insights to optimize reimbursement and access. This individual also plays a key role in shaping EUCAN’s access strategy by integrating local HTA requirements market dynamics into global development plans.
This role requires strong cross functional collaboration and the ability to clearly communicate the value of products to stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement HTA strategies tailored to the Canadian environment to secure or enhance access for Takeda’s products.
Analyse reimbursement trends and payer policies to deliver actionable insights to cross-functional teams and senior leadership
Build strategic relationships with key external stakeholders with Government & External Affairs, Patient Engagement, and Policy teams to drive cohesive advocacy plans.
Support pricing and negotiation strategies across public and private payers in coordination with internal stakeholders
Lead life-cycle management initiatives to sustain product value and competitiveness, collaborating with Marketing, Medical, and Commercial teams.
Lead pre-launch value assessments by evaluating clinical data, therapeutic landscapes, Target Product Profiles (TPPs), health economic models and pricing strategies to inform strategic recommendations and support market access planning.
Engage in early payer/HTA forums (e.g., CDA Early Scientific Advice) to shape EUCAN clinical development, evidence generation plans and access strategies.
Lead cross-functional workshops to align on NPP strategic priorities and pre-launch tactics.
Uphold compliance with Takeda’s Code of Ethical Practices, IMC Code of Ethics, and all relevant SOPs, laws, and industry standards, promoting integrity and governance in all business activities.
Key Capabilities
In-depth knowledge of the pharmaceutical sector including: HTA methodologies, private and public market access dynamics, and payer reimbursement policies and practices.
Translate clinical and economic evidence into compelling payer value propositions.
Identify evidence gaps and provide strategic insights to global/local teams.
Build early access strategies using market dynamics, stakeholder insights, and initial data.
Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving in ambiguous environments.
Exhibit entrepreneurial thinking and ownership of long-term success.
Skilled at influencing stakeholders and leading cross-functional teams without formal authority.
Strong analytical skills and financial/business acumen.
Proven leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written, complemented by excellent interpersonal abilities.
**Leverage digital tools and AI platforms** to enhance evidence generation, stakeholder engagement, and internal decision-making.
**Incorporate AI-driven analytics, natural language processing (NLP), and real-world data platforms** (e.g., Flatiron, IQVIA, Aetion) to support HTA submissions and payer negotiations.
**Utilize CRM systems (e.g., Veeva), data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), and AI-powered literature review tools** (e.g., DistillerSR, Evid Science) to streamline workflows and improve strategic planning.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in sciences, economics, political science, or public administration; **post-graduate training in health economics, epidemiology, or biostatistics is an asset**.
5+ years (Sr. Manager) or 3+ years (Manager) of experience in pharmaceutical market access, including HTA and healthcare analytics.
Strong understanding of therapeutic areas and disease management.
**Experience with digital health technologies, AI applications in healthcare, and data-driven decision-making is strongly preferred.**
Fully fluent in English; considered an asset to be fluent in French.
Travel Requirements
Willingness to travel for meetings, including overnight and occasional international travel.
