Job Description

About the role:

As a Senior Maintenance Mechanic you will perform the maintenance, preventive, and corrective maintenance of the production manufacturing equipment in the Los Angeles Manufacturing Plant.

How you will contribute:

  • Prepare detailed documented work orders.

  • Performs preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance of critical plant equipment on a regular basis, to include, but not limited to: Production Equipment, Critical Systems, Sterilization Equipment and electrical control systems as responsibility assigned to Manufacturing Maintenance in both cGMP and non-cGMP areas.

  • Responsible for repairing and or replacement of the mechanical, electrical and controls components of Manufacturing and Sterilization Equipment as assigned.

  • Requires familiarity with generally accepted building, plumbing, piping, electrical, and fire protection practices and codes to include National Electrical Code (NFPA-70 and NEC) Uniform Building Code (UBC) in compliance with L. A. City, Takeda EH&S and Factory Mutual requirements.

  • Must follow safety rules and ensure compliance with L.A. City, CA state and federal EPA regulations and laws. Specifically responsible system repairs, upkeep, maintenance and operations managed within regulation agencies to include but not limited to L.A. City Building and Safety, SCAQMDM, L.A. City Bureau of Sanitation, and CAL OSHA.

  • Individual will be responsible for a multi-craft duty within the business unit.

  • Ability to verify mechanical and electrical drawings for accuracy. Perform SOP job plans and draw redline as necessary.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair of critical equipment including but not limited to: plant equipment, filtration systems, centripetal equipment, pumps, sterilization, and electrical controls to include, but not limited to, indicators, electrical distribution, variable frequency drives, electric motors and electrical control systems.

  • Ability to assist Reliability Engineering Group in equipment failure root cause analysis with prompt resolution.

  • Requires familiarity with generally accepted building and electrical codes to include NEC and UMC in compliance with LA City and Takeda EH&S.

  • Support engineering projects including but not limited to: equipment installation, commissioning, and validation process.

  • Cross-train new employees and teammates.

  • Attend required training and meetings.

  • Performing Disposal of Hazardous Waste

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

What you bring to Takeda:

  • High school diploma or GED required.  4+ years of experience required.

  • Must have a strong knowledge of instrumentation and mechanical systems, such as controllers, indicators, control valves, PLC, analyzers, sensors, pumps, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, etc.

  • Must have a strong knowledge of manufacturing equipment including distribution, filtration systems, centrifuges, sterilization, autoclaves, process tanks, incubators and CIP/COP systems, PLC based process control systems, Human Machine Interface (HMI) configuration.

  • Knowledge of Delta V and CMMS systems such as JDE, Maximo, SIP, RAM, etc.

  • Knowledge of basic chemical and biological safety procedures.

  • Incumbent must be proficient in a variety of mathematical disciplines and be able to work with both the metric and USA standards of measurement.

  • Must be able to read and follow detailed written instructions and have good verbal/written communication skills.

  • Must have knowledge in Lock out/Tag out (LOTO) programs.

  • Ability to read, write and interpret technical documents and instructions, electrical and mechanical drawings, equipment blue prints and piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID).

  • Must have customer service and leadership attitude to take ownership of any maintenance related problem. 

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and use good judgment. Must be able to handle multiple priorities. Must be proactive, results orientated, and have a strong attention to detail.

  • Must be able to work overtime on a short notice and support standby program.

  • A.A./A.S. technical discipline or Journeyman skilled craft training/apprenticeship certificate or commensurate combination of technical education and experience is highly desirable

How you will contribute:

At Takeda, our patients rely on us to deliver quality products. As a result, we must follow strict rules in our manufacturing facilities to ensure we are not endangering the quality of the product. In this role, you may:

  • Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.

  • Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.

  • Work in a cold, wet environment.

  • Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary.

  • Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility.

  • Must be able to climb ladders and move about in closed quarters facility non-manufacturing support areas.

  • May be required to work in a confined area

  • Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions.

U.S. Hourly Wage Range:

$20.53 - $32.26


The estimated hourly wage range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term incentives.
