Job Description
The Planet Operating Team, part of Takeda's Corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) department, leads initiatives to advance sustainability across the company’s global operations and value chain. The team’s work spans a wide range of focus areas, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, implementing the company’s Nature Strategy (addressing water, waste, and biodiversity), and driving sustainable design in products and operations.
Collaborating across departments, the Planet Team develops innovative tools and methodologies to measure and reduce environmental impacts, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements and aligning with Takeda’s Net Zero by 2040 commitment. By fostering partnerships, advancing carbon removal strategies, and supporting the integration of sustainability into decision-making processes, the team plays a critical role in embedding environmental stewardship throughout Takeda’s business operations.
The Planet Team is dedicated to advancing environmental sustainability across the company, focusing on climate action, Nature strategies (water, waste, and biodiversity), sustainable design, and global energy management. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful projects that align with the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its Net Zero by 2040 goal. The intern will support a variety of initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact, improving operational efficiency, and driving compliance with emerging environmental standards.
How You Will Contribute:
The intern will assist with developing and enhancing sustainability tools and frameworks, including eco-design tools, emissions forecasting, and reporting systems. They will participate in data collection and analysis, contribute to Nature strategy feasibility studies, and support projects such as the rollout of hybrid and electric vehicles in the company’s fleet.
Additional responsibilities may include engaging in collaborations to address hard-to-abate value chain emissions, supporting carbon removal investment strategies, and contributing to the planning and execution of external climate and sustainability engagements.
This role offers a hands-on learning experience in sustainability practices, with opportunities to collaborate with cross-functional teams and gain exposure to innovative technologies and methodologies. The intern will develop skills in data analysis, project management, and strategic thinking while contributing to the company’s efforts to build a more sustainable future.
Internship Development Opportunities:
The Summer Intern on the Planet Team will gain a comprehensive understanding of corporate sustainability strategies, including climate action, emissions accounting, Nature initiatives, and sustainable design. They will have the opportunity to work with advanced tools and technologies, gaining hands-on experience in data analysis, forecasting models, and automation processes that drive sustainability efforts. Through collaboration with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders, the intern will develop strong teamwork and strategic thinking skills while addressing complex environmental challenges.
In addition to technical expertise, the intern will enhance their project management abilities by participating in the planning, execution, and evaluation of key initiatives. They will also gain valuable insights into regulatory compliance requirements, such as CSRD and EU Taxonomy, and how these shape corporate sustainability practices. Networking with industry professionals and engaging with innovative solutions will further provide a unique platform for personal and professional growth. With mentorship and feedback from experienced team members, the intern will leave the program equipped with the knowledge and skills to make meaningful contributions to environmental sustainability in their future career.
Job Requirements:
This is a hybrid position located in Cambridge, MA
Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and experience with data visualization tools (Power BI preferred).
Familiarity with life cycle assessment principles, emissions accounting (e.g., Scope 3), or sustainability frameworks is a plus.
Knowledge of or experience with programming languages (Python, R) or data management tools is highly desirable.
Interest in or familiarity with artificial intelligence and its applications in data analysis or sustainability is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.
Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams and adapt to a dynamic work environment.
A demonstrated passion for environmental sustainability, corporate social responsibility, or related fields.
Internship Eligibility
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2025 or later
The internship program is 10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (June 2nd- August 22nd) or (June 16th - August 29th)
The intern must be able to commit to one of these time frames
Able to work full time 40 hours a week during internship dates
Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support for the U.S Summer Internship Program

$21.00 - $46.00
The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level to be entered following completion of internship.The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. internship benefits vary by location and may include:

Commuter Benefit: To offset your work-commute expenses, Takeda provides U.S. employees with a fixed monthly subsidy to be used for either public transportation (transit) or parking.
