OBJECTIVES:

Proactively lead in the development and drive the execution of an integrated Oncology R&D strategy that facilitates efficient drug development across all phases of development and seamlessly supports business needs. As a core member of the OTAU Strategy and Operations leadership team, the Lead, OTAU R&D Strategy and Portfolio Management serves as a key partner to the OTAU Strategy & Operation Head and the OTAU LT and helps ensure agile execution of the Oncology R&D portfolio strategy. This role drives portfolio analyses needed for effective decision making and ensures clear communication of portfolio strategy, status and decisions across the One Oncology organization.  The role will regularly interact with and facilitate meetings of senior governance bodies across the One Oncology organization, including the Takeda Oncology Management Meeting (TOMM) and the Oncology Development Strategy Team (ODeST).

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Portfolio Strategy and Management - Strategic Initiatives - Portfolio Modelling & Analytics

  • Works closely with the Head of OTAU Strategy and Operations and the OTAU LT to drive the development, communication and continuous refinement of an end-to-end, integrated R&D Oncology TAU strategic framework.  The framework will encompass early and late-stage assets and be aligned with Disease Area Strategies to enable portfolio-level decision-making.
  • Works closely with senior Oncology Leadership across OTAU, ODDU and OBU to define a near and long-term OneOncology portfolio vision.  This includes an external oncology strategy vision focused on key assets and technology platforms in close collaboration with Global Business Development and the Center for External Innovation.
  • Actively contributes to real-time and effective portfolio prioritization, decision making and key portfolio analytics to support individual asset and portfolio-level decision making.  This includes strategic context setting, decision structuring, risk assessments, value profiles, PTRS development in conjunction with GPTs, PRC, TOMM and ODeST preparations, etc.
  • Provides strategic input and drug development expertise to Oncology management reviews, including quantitative scenario development, trade-off implications and the assessment of investment opportunities. Monitors portfolio progress, identifies trends, risks and gaps, and recommends specific strategies to optimize Takeda’s oncology portfolio under the supervision of the Head of OTAU Strategy and Operations.
    • In close coordination with relevant stakeholders across the One Oncology organization, provides portfolio insights in support of corporate planning cycles, e.g. IR earnings calls, MRP, LRF, etc.
  • Ensure TOMM and ODeST governance agendas and meetings are managed appropriately, resulting in focused, agenda driven meetings, and effective decision making.  Strives for continuous improvement in decision making approaches and communicates and monitors governance recommendations and decisions.
  • Leads strategic initiatives under the direction of the Head of OTAU Strategy and Operations to improve the portfolio management, portfolio linkage and prioritization methodology, as well as develops mechanisms to effectively respond to internal strategic imperatives and evolving business needs.
  • Helps facilitates the Oncology Advisory Board, including compilation of Board feedback and implementation of Board recommendations.
    • Represents the OTAU portfolio planning and strategy function to internal and external stakeholders.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Required:

  • Advanced scientific degree (PhD, MD, or MBA)
  • Minimum of 10 -15 years of relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical, biotechnology or life science consulting industry, with in-depth knowledge of research and development and related commercial operations.
  • Minimum of 7 years of drug development experience in the biopharmaceutical/biotechnology industry with interdisciplinary global experience with complex projects, such as program leadership, strategy and execution, insights and analytics, etc.
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, communicate ideas and data both verbally and written in a persuasive and appropriate manner in a matrix environment.
  • Experience presenting to, and interacting with, Senior Executives in R&D and Business organizations in R&D-driven multinational biopharmaceutical or large biotechnology organizations.
  • Ability to drive and influence decision-making across all levels of the organization.
  • Displays a firm grasp of modern decision analytics approaches.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to travel, including overnight trips. Some international travel may be required.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$205,100.00 - $322,300.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
