Job Description
Objective / Purpose:
Global Biologics (GB) mission is the discovery of transformative innovative biologics therapeutics to support Takeda’s pipeline and advance novel therapeutics into clinical development in Takeda’s three therapeutic areas of interest: Oncology (immuno-oncology, cell therapies), Gastroenterology and Neuroscience.
Biologics In Vitro Pharmacology (BIVP) role is to identify the therapeutics candidates that have the desired biological activity and select the best candidates for further preclinical and clinical development.
This role will provide essential scientific guidance and make strategic decisions to ensure the delivery of the critical functions of BIVP.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Independently designs, develops, and executes research experiments/studies with high scientific rigor and leads the interpretation of study results.
Designs, executes and validates a variety of assays to understand mechanism of action and characterize biologics.
Records experimental design and results in a timely and accurate manner and prepares study reports for internal or regulatory use.
Develops and oversees novel scientific projects and manages the work of others directly or in a matrixed structure.
Provides broad assay development support for early-stage drug discovery projects in the GI tract and inflammation disease area.
Acts as a senior scientific consultant, providing technical and strategic leadership for research project implementation and coordination.
Independently finds solutions and develops strategies within his/her area of expertise, uses breadth of knowledge of other disciplines and acts as a scientific resource for BIVP.
Scientifically assesses and recommends vendors and outsources nonclinical studies to appropriate contract research organizations.
Collaborates with automation engineers to identify suitable ways to utilize laboratory automation for the execution of a variety of cell-based assays.
Contributes to multiple projects, interfacing with project teams to meet timelines for project progression.
Presents research findings clearly and effectively at internal and external meetings.
DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS
Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise
Experienced in the design, development and implementation of in vitro cell-based functional assays to study target-specific drug effects.
Knowledgeable and experienced in cell biology and antibody characterization.
Experienced with cell-based functional assay platforms, including, but not limited to, on-cell binding, reporter assay, Alphalisa, MSD, flow cytometry, cell adhesion, cell migration, and imaging.
Experience in troubleshooting, assay optimization, and data quality control are a plus.
Skilled in data analysis, interpretation, and data reporting.
Experience and knowledge in diseases of the GI tract, such as liver fibrosis and inflammatory bowel disease, is a plus.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
PhD degree in biomedical, biological science, biochemistry, immunology, oncology, biotechnology, or related scientific discipline with 3+ years of experience, or MS with 9+ years of experience, or BS with 11+ years of experience.
Industry standard experience with data record creation and maintenance.
Broad technical knowledge of biochemical science, HTP functional assays and automation experience.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; self-driven, creative, with a strong team-oriented mentality, positive attitude and effective project management skills.

Boston, MAU.S. Base Salary Range:
$137,000.00 - $215,270.00The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
