Job Description

About the role:

As a Senior Director andpart of the operations team, this leader partners closely with the Function’s leadership, Finance, Procurement, and external providers to drive financial discipline and operational rigor. The role owns end-to-end budget planning and governance (annual plan, forecasts, accruals, and variance management), strengthens vendor and outside counsel oversight (selection, contracting, performance, and rate/fee negotiations), and ensures accurate, timely financial reporting and invoice-to-pay execution in alignment with corporate policies. Through data-driven insights and proactive spend management, this leader helps the Function deliver high-quality services in a cost-effective manner.

How you will contribute:

Budget Management & Financial Planning

  • Own the annual budget process for the Function, including development, submission, justification in partnership with Finance

  • Lead quarterly and monthly forecasting, variance analysis, accruals, and re‑forecast cycles

  • Monitor run‑rate spend, trend analysis, and risk/opportunity identification across practice groups

  • Provide strategic financial insights to the General Counsel and the GLEC Leadership team to inform staffing, resourcing, and investment decisions

Spend Management & Financial Reporting

  • Manage the Function’s spending (e.g., outside counsel and other advisors, third-party providers, technology and licensing, training, travel, consulting, and operational expenses)

  • Build dashboards and reporting that provide visibility into spend by practice area, matter type, geography, vendor, and cost center

  • Develop KPIs to measure financial efficiency, cost drivers, and productivity

  • Partner with technology and data teams to optimize financial data extraction, analytics, and reporting

eBilling Management & Invoice Compliance

  • Own the global eBilling platform and related processes (e.g., rate card management, invoice rules, budget tracking, matter/case setup, and portfolio management)

  • Ensure compliance with billing guidelines, rate structures, AFAs, and accrual requirements

  • Review and troubleshoot invoice exceptions; ensure timely resolution with vendors

  • Improve financial accuracy through automation, invoice validation, and integration with ERP systems

Vendor Management & Outside Counsel Governance

  • Lead the outside counsel and vendor governance program, including panel management, vendor selection, rate negotiations, and contract renewals

  • Create and update billing guidelines, preferred provider lists, and performance scorecards

  • Monitor vendor performance (quality, cost, responsiveness, and compliance to guidelines)

  • Drive adoption of AFAs, volume discounts, and value‑based pricing models

  • Partner with Procurement and Risk to ensure contractual compliance, cybersecurity controls, and appropriate onboarding

Process Optimization, Controls & Compliance

  • Establish financial controls, audit readiness, and compliance with financial policies, retention rules, and JSOX/SOX (if applicable)

  • Streamline invoicing, matter budgeting, and accrual processes for increased predictability and accuracy

  • Drive continuous improvement through automation, templates, and standardization of financial workflows

  • Partner with other operations teams and relevant enablement groups to integrate financial data into the Function’s core systems and analytics ecosystem

Executive Reporting & Stakeholder Partnership

  • Partner with Finance to prepare financial materials for the General Counsel, the GLEC Leadership team, Audit/Risk Committees, and Board level reporting (as requested)

  • Translate financial and vendor data into clear insights and actionable recommendations

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Function and Finance (FP&A), Procurement, and Accounting

  • Lead quarterly business reviews with outside counsel and strategic vendors

  • Contribute to the Function’s performance dashboardKPIs, OKRs, cycle times, financial performance, and risk indicators

Team Leadership

  • Build and mentor a high performing finance team with clear roles, competencies, and career paths

  • Define operating rhythms, service levels, and training programs for financial processes

  • Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, customer service, transparency, collaboration and continuous improvement

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in Legal finance, operations, FP&A, or financial management role with increasing responsibility

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Expert experience in data insights and analytics, and data visualization

  • Expert skill set in Excel and other data analyst tools

  • Expert experience in financial acumen, financial modeling, and forecasting

  • Experience managing outside counsel and other professional services spend

  • Excellent executive communication, stakeholder management, and senior-level presentation capabilities

  • Ability to collaborate during or lead cross‑functional initiatives and partner with senior stakeholders

  • Experience leading teams and developing high-performing talent

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$212,000.00 - $333,190.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
