Job Description

Join Takeda as an Associate Director, Market Research and Competitive Intelligence out of our Cambridge, MA office. You will lead market research and competitive intelligence across multiple franchises within the US Rare Disease Business Unit.  The position is responsible for understanding the unique business challenges and translating them into actionable market research and competitive intelligence initiatives.  You will serve as a key strategic advisor to brand leadership; and is a key problem-solving partner who identifies opportunities and delivers meaningful recommendations that drive organizational action and maximize commercial potential. As a trusted advisor and partner to the brand team and senior leadership, you will be responsible for communicating requirements and methodology and ensuring the execution of market research and competitive intelligence to drive effective, data-driven decision-making.

How you will contribute:

  • Accurately assesses business issues faced by business stakeholders and develops appropriate market research and approaches to address them.
  • Leads market research projects independently that inform the brand strategy, including identification of market research needs, vendor selection and PO management, design, execution and interpretation of market research studies.  Understands the importance of “bringing stakeholders along” vs. leaving the “so what’s” until the final presentation.
  • Leads competitive intelligence efforts, interprets findings, and provides insights and recommendations to senior leadership, including leveraging and collaborating appropriately with Global market research and CI colleagues.
  • Acts as the strategic insights partner to the brand team, contributing to brand strategy and translating market research and CI insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Has the organizational courage to challenge “business as usual” approaches if they do not align with radical simplification and key strategic initiatives, and is willing to deliver objective, yet unfavorable news.
  • Is viewed as the market research and CI “thought leader” within their domain, exploring innovative techniques, and assessing the “ROI” of these novel approaches.
  • Demonstrates the ability to modify and prioritize the plan as needs change.
  • Creates proposed budgets for market research and competitive intelligence to assist franchises in financial planning, and regularly tracks and reports on spend vs. plan, as well as coordination of all POs, invoices, and accrual phasing.
  • Understands the overall market dynamics in which the RDBU brands compete.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations in a concise manner, focusing on “what matters”, and expert at facilitating discussions around strategic trade-offs.
  • Owns PMR and CI aspects of Situational Analysis during brand planning by consolidating critical/relevant insights from yearly information-gathering activities.
  • Collaborates with analytics team to synergize insights and analytics into actionable recommendations to the brand team, including pressure testing analytics findings based on triangulation with primary MR and CI work.
  • Mentors and (if appropriate) manages junior MR/CI colleagues on functional best practices and Takeda leadership behaviors.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced degree (MBA/PharmD) preferred.
  • 8+ years of advanced analytics, marketing, market research, competitive intelligence, commercial operations, management consulting or related functional experience within the bio-pharmaceutical industry required.
  • Pharmaceutical/Biotech or relevant consulting experience required.
  • Expertly navigates and interprets market trends and competitor insights, applying advanced analytical skills.
  • Skilled in creating persuasive presentations, influencing cross-functional teams and guiding strategic decisions based on outside-in (PMR/CI) insights
  • Extensive knowledge and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards surrounding primary market research.
  • Driven, highly self-motivated, confident individual with desire and ability to own a high-profile part of the business.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/assignments to demanding deadlines with no supervision.
  • Ability to influence without authority and challenge the business decisions of senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and implement solutions.
  • Strong presentation skills with ability to effectively communicate complex concepts.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$149,100.00 - $234,300.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
