Job Description

This role is responsible for enabling and managing future scientific data and computation platforms within the Takeda portfolio and is responsible for the day-to-day development and alignment of delivery to the strategic vision.  This role is also focused on the understanding and introduction of emerging technology that will change the way we use scientific data and deliver computation through cloud technology and platforms.  Responsibilities of this role include, the conception, delivery, release plans, and communicating progress to stakeholders.

As a recognized expert within your business or function, you possess comprehensive expertise in your discipline and broad knowledge across related areas. You excel at anticipating internal/external challenges, recommending improvements, and providing leadership and consultative expertise for a specific business, region or function. Your role involves shaping company policies, solving unique, far-reaching problems affecting operations, disciplines, or other business units/functional areas/regions. You frequently interact with equivalent-level managers and customer representatives, conducting briefings and technical meetings. Operating independently, you provide guidance in the most complex situations, lead functional teams or projects, and serve as a best practice/quality resource.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead the analysis, design, development, and implementation of scientific research and development data and computation platforms to enable computing and research workflows

  • Oversee scientific data, computing, and data science platform design, plan projects, establish and monitor progress, and ensure that projects are completed on time, on budget, and properly integrate

  • Work closely with R&D strategy and architecture to understand current gaps and future needs of scientific data and computation platforms including the identification of platforms and patterns that can be leveraged strategically across functions and use cases.

  • Deep interaction with business partnering functions, scientists, and other business end users to deeply understand the business and computational needs, workflow, and opportunities of the technology scientific data and computing capabilities

  • Work closely and support computational projects from drug discovery units and therapeutic areas to ensure success through scalable infrastructure enablement

  • Direct the development and configuration of scientific and data platforms from conceptualization through stabilization

  • Oversee effort in testing, debugging, and documenting R&D data science platforms

  • Direct effort to plan all activities associated with implementation and maintenance of platforms

  • Direct effort to provide support to production support service requests and perform routine maintenance and support activities

  • Direct effort, use established requirements management methodology and tools, to identify, verify and document business, functional and technical requirements to support development of technology and/or business-driven technology solutions

  • Direct effort to work with IT Architects to define business solutions, ensuring alignment with business strategies and priorities, as well as the target benefits expected

  • Oversee effort to identify new hardware/software technologies to fit specialized business needs and configurations

  • Direct innovative experimentation and proof-of-concept work to introduce new directions and features to scientific technology capabilities

  • Technology selection by assessing and recommending new frameworks, platforms, and tools.

DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS :

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise:

  • Experienced with scientific computation platforms including computational biology, computational chemistry, and multi-omics pipelines

  • Strong and broad knowledge of cloud and hardware compute capabilities in a biopharmaceutical context

  • Experienced with high-performance computing, including AWS services (Parallel Cluster, Batch, Healthomics)

  • Apply strategic planning techniques to align IT projects with business objectives, capable of guiding teams in complex scenarios

  • Understanding of IT infrastructure design and implementation, with the ability to oversee complex systems integrations

  • Experienced in data science platform landscape, modern tools and practices, and AI/MI to harness insights from data

  • Experienced in monitoring and optimizing the performance of IT systems to support business operations

  • Effective in managing relationships with stakeholders at all levels, ensuring clear communication and alignment on project goals

  • Capable of working across functional boundaries to promote teamwork and achieve common goals

  • Experienced in fostering an environment of collaboration and accountability

  • Proficient in managing large-scale IT projects from inception to completion, ensuring they meet budget and time constraints

  • Experienced with Agile and SDLC methodologies, improving project delivery and lifecycle management.

  • Manages system integration projects, ensuring seamless connectivity and functionality across platforms.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • 10 years with a Bachelor's Degree or 8 with a Master’s Degree or equivalent experience (Master's preferred).

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a technology-focused role

  • Proven track record of developing and deploying technology and process change, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Recognized for meticulous attention to detail, enhancing quality and precision across projects.

  • Direct experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related field required

  • Previous experience leading a medium to large organization and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders is a plus

  • Proven track record of leading and driving business process transformation and organizational culture change as well as delivering on programs with complex business deliverables

  • Track record of successful leadership, management, and development of large, multi-disciplinary globally dispersed teams. Strong judge of talent with the ability to make tough talent decisions.

  • Health care business acumen with a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$153,600.00 - $241,340.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
