Job Description
About the role:
As the Head of Site Engineering, you will oversee the technical operations and maintenance of a cutting-edge R&D site in Vienna, reporting into the R&D Site Head. Your responsibilities include managing site utilities, supply systems, and facility maintenance to ensure seamless business operations and excellence, all while adhering to regulatory and safety standards. This state-of-the-art facility meets Takeda’s sustainability requirements, and you will be responsible for integrating all newly installed equipment and systems to the highest standards. You will serve as the main point of contact for the various labs, services, and facility operations within the building.
Your Tasks and Responsibilities
Building Handover and Operation: Oversee proper handover of the new building and technical systems from the project phase, as well as set up and manage routine operations.
Technical Systems Management: Responsible for building services, electrical, and process engineering systems and manage automation systems (e.g., PMS, BMS) as well as fire protection safety equipment (e.g., smoke detection, sprinklers).
Financial and Budgetary Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and manage technical operations including budgetary aspects, managing OPEX and CAPEX expenditures.
Building and Infrastructure Maintenance: Planned and emergency maintenance of buildings and infrastructure in operational state.Prosecute routine work orders, including large laboratory equipment maintenance.
Preventive Maintenance and Sustainability: Develop and run preventive maintenance and calibration programs.Manage facility life cycles to ensure business continuity and meet sustainability requirements.
Site Management and Leadership: Oversee daily operations and maintenance for the Vienna R&D site.Lead and develop a team of technical operations professionals, including outsourced IFM programs.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management: Manage third-party vendors for site services, including contracting and service agreements.Administer capital improvement plans with stakeholder collaboration to support site goals.
Compliance and Crisis Management: Ensure compliance with regulatory, SOPs, Standards, and EHS requirements.Participate in the Crisis Management program and act as Incident Commander during crises.
Technical Documentation and Authority Liaison: Responsible for technical documentation of systems and building.Support engagements with authorities and manage corresponding documentation requirements.
Education & Competencies:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent, with15 + years of experience in a similar leadership role; whereas at least 5 years in the pharmaceutical industry in engineering or manufacturing operations
Comprehensive knowledge of building services, electrical engineering,process engineering systems within life sciences or scientific research. Experience with BMS, PMS and CMMS systems
Proven skills in leading and developing technical teams. Strong vendor management skills and expertise in contract negotiation. Budgetary experience in managing site expenditures.
Profound knowledge of design and construction project management principles and proventrack record in managing technical projects in time, in budget and in quality.
Proficiency in managing and planning maintenance tasks for buildings and infrastructure.Know How in CAD programs or similar systems.Strong continuous improvement and problem-solving skills (e.g. Lean, DMAIC). Resilience in case of emergency to ensure professional crisis management.
Knowledge of regulations, industry standards, and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements within R&D settings
Strong communication skills for engaging with stakeholders, senior leadership and authorities. Fluency inboth verbal and written German and English.
