Job Description

The HR Business Leader (HRBL) for the Japan Oncology Business Unit (JOBU) will play a critical role in aligning global and country HR priorities with business objectives, leading a broad range of workforce planning/execution and local HR initiatives. This role requires a strategic partner who can collaborate across various business functions and HR Centers of Excellence and Innovation (COEI) to enhance organizational effectiveness and employee engagement. This role reports to the Head of Human Resources for the Global Oncology Business Unit and will be a trusted member of both the Global Oncology HR Leadership Team and the Japan Oncology Leadership Team (JOLT) leveraging a deep understanding of the Japan Oncology business including internal and external dynamics, trends and needs.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop Japan Oncology HR strategy and roadmap based on the specific needs of JOBU region in alignment with Global Oncology HR Strategy. Proactively identify trends and root cause solutions that are best for business, talent, and enterprise.
  • Set a short- and long-term HR agenda for Japan Oncology BU. Shape Leadership Team thinking and contribute to JOLT direction for the region.
  • In cooperation with Takeda Business Solutions (TBS), COEIs, Local HRBPs & HRBLs, deliver best-in-class people experience, talent management, organization effectiveness, learning & development, total rewards, labor & employee relations, planning & insights aligned with Oncology HR strategy.
  • Take active role in ensuring Leadership Team effectiveness. Support individual development, provide senior leader coaching, and elevate the team’s performance.
  • Input business context into the development, deployment and embedding of Learning & Talent Management (LTM) programs within JOBU in partnership with COEI. Foster a culture of continuous learning and capability building. 
  • Drive organization effectiveness, proactively set an agenda that spans mindset, process, role and org design, capabilities and measurement/KPIs.
  • Steward of employee experience.  Ensure ongoing feedback loops and multi-way dialogue between employees, leadership, COEs, Takeda Business Solutions (TBS), etc. Develop and deploy strategies to create a distinctive employee experience.
  • Strategic oversight of cyclical processes such as succession/talent planning, performance management and compensation planning, identifying and leveraging synergies with Japan Business Unit (JPBU) HR to deliver.
  • Ensure Japan talent acquisition and total rewards practices are competitive and aligned with JOBU needs and external Oncology market. 
  • Manage labor and employee relations within JOBU. Mitigate risk, ensure objectivity, consistency, sound judgment and compliance.
  • Deliver high quality and actionable people insights and inspire step change solutions for JOBU. 
  • Engage in collaborative relationships with COEs, JPBU HR, TBS HR Services and other Functions like Finance, Ethics & Compliance, Corp Communications and Legal. Partner to create solutions that make an impact when deployed and embedded within JOBU.
  • As part of the Global Oncology HR Leadership team, help shape the overall strategy for Global Oncology and Global HR.
  • Build a best-in-class (indirect) HR Team. Create an environment which inspires people to do their best and is aligned to the Company’s values.  Elevate HR capabilities.
  • Lead and participate in Japana and/or Global HR projects as identified.  Apply knowledge of how JOBU works and contemporary external best practices to co-create enterprise solutions that deliver results.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum education of gakushi/bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years HR experience, in lieu of HR experience will consider equivalent experience in a Sr. Leadership position with broad management responsibilities.
  • 3-5 years management of direct or indirect teams is desirable
  • Verbal and written proficiency in Japanese and Business English
  • Experience working with Commercial Functions and/or supporting a complex global organization undergoing transformation is preferred. Business acumen, cross-functional knowledge, and P&L orientation
  • It is expected that the individual will bring diversity and cultural intelligence; experience of working abroad and/or working in an international environment
  • Has enterprise perspective; proactively shapes new solutions to meet evolving business needs, identifying efficiencies in ways of working
  • Has Change agility; thrives in ambiguity, complexity, and changing environments
  • Collaborative “team player” and alignment builder; comfortable with multiple points of view yet can effectively lead a group to the best business decision
  • Self-motivated; self-starter with minimal direct oversight
  • Very comfortable interfacing with all levels of the organization. Strong networking skills with the gravitas to sit on external country HR Associations and Boards
  • Enables the team to work collaboratively and have challenging discussions
  • Makes the extra effort to meet with people, understand diverse perspectives, and effectively work together;
  • Courageous in making and implementing decisions based on sound business judgement
  • Builds structures and processes that reduce unnecessary complexity
  • Identifies and develops the next generation of leaders for the global organization, thinking ahead to what will be required for the future

Takeda Compensation and Benefits Summary:

  • Allowances: Commutation, Housing, Overtime Work etc.

  • Salary Increase: Annually, Bonus Payment: Twice a year

  • Working Hours: Headquarters (Osaka/ Tokyo) 9:00-17:30, Production Sites (Osaka/ Yamaguchi) 8:00-16:45, (Narita) 8:30-17:15, Research Site (Kanagawa) 9:00-17:45

  • Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, May Day, Year-End Holidays etc. (approx. 123 days in a year)
