Job Description

The position will be a team member of the Automation Engineering group. The Automation Engineering group is responsible to ensure that the manufacturing equipment/systems and Automation systems used in the manufacture, storage, testing, and distribution of products are fit for purpose in accordance with standards and industry regulatory requirements.

The Engineering Intern is responsible for operational, maintenance and troubleshooting support for site automation systems including but not limited to manufacturing equipment such as: process tanks, Clean in Place (CIP), parts washers, chromatography, ultrafiltration, aseptic fill line equipment, packaging systems, water and chemical distribution systems, centrifuges, and filter presses. This position will provide support and ownership of the site automation systems which may include Emerson DeltaV, Allen Bradley PLC, OSI-PI plant historian, Siemens Simatic IT electronic batch reports, and others. The Engineering Intern will implement area and system improvements through strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and cGMP's in a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing facility.


How You Will Contribute:

Provide support for other automation projects, including but not limited to:

  • Ability to Understand, Analyze and Replace the OPC DA interface from BAS Kepware to BAS EBI servers. Upgrade of Kepware OPC platform for BAS and Develop OPC UA interface to replace legacy OPC DA interface between DeltaV and EBM

  • Integration of User Access Request forms to ASK IT CMDB system. Develop and Document procedures for the Automation servers and systems patching procedures.

  • Develop, revise and execute procedures for various control systems software configuration, hardware installation and back up and restoration such as Upgrade the existing SSRS server to the latest version and migrate all existing reports and templates to the new SSRS server.

  • Demonstrate continuous improvement with respect to increasing job knowledge and proficiency related to engineering in the biopharmaceutical industry, as well as technical understanding/problem solving capability like Perform testing and qualification of the new SSRS server and migrated reports.

  • Publish the new, qualified reports on Citrix Servers and decommission the old SSRS server.

Internship Development Opportunities:

Technical Knowledge:

  • Instrumentation: Familiarity with sensors, transmitters, controllers, and actuators.

Software Skills:

  • Programming: Proficiency in languages like SQL, VBA, and PLC programming.

  • Control Software: Experience with software like MES, BAS or DCS (Distributed Control Systems).

Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze process data and identify issues or opportunities for improvement.

  • Troubleshooting: Skill in diagnosing and fixing issues in control systems.

Communication Skills:

  • Documentation: Writing clear and concise technical reports.

  • Team Collaboration: Effectively working with engineers, technicians, and other professionals.

Practical Experience:

  • Practical work: Hands-on experience with process control equipment in the manufacturing environment.

  • Project Management: Basic understanding of managing projects, timelines, and deliverables.

Job Requirements:

  • This position is fully onsite located in Covington, GA

  • Pursuing b=Bachelor’s degree preferably in senior year in Computer science, Electrical or Information systems-related fields.

  • The intern should have knowledge or experience working with databases, scripting(coding), computer and network infrastructure, technical writing, analyzing and understanding of the data and alarms management on process control systems.

Internship Eligibility

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship

  • Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2025 or later

  • The internship program is 10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (June 2nd- August 22nd) or (June 16th - August 29th)

    • The intern must be able to commit to one of these time frames

  • Able to work full time 40 hours a week during internship dates

  • Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support for the U.S Summer Internship Program

U.S. Hourly Wage Range:

$21.00 - $46.00

The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level to be entered following completion of internship.The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. internship benefits vary by location and may include:

  • Paid sick time
