Job Description
Job Title: Reliability Engineer II
Location: Los Angeles, CA
About the role:
Under the direction of the Manager for Reliability Engineering and Project Manager for Los Angeles Fractionation Expansion (LAFE), contribute to the reliability, design, development and enhancement of manufacturing and support equipment for Los Angeles Fractionation Expansion project.
Responsible for improving the reliability of manufacturing equipment, utilities, critical systems and maintenance processes by applying the principles of Reliability Centered Maintenance. Apply Root Cause Analysis methodologies to improve equipment that support manufacturing operations in a dynamic, fast-paced cGMP, biotechnology environment. Measure reliability performance and demonstrate success of improvements. Support capital projects as needed. May be assigned other duties. This position will provide technical support to the manufacturing and maintenance functions for the operation of the equipment and processes.
How you will contribute:
Work with LAFE Project Engineering Team (PET) to apply Reliability Centered Maintenance strategies to support installation, commissioning and validation of new equipment such as vessels, centrifuges, filter presses, Clean in Place skids, etc.
Develop the maintenance strategy, plans, SOPs, parts lists, BOMs and frequencies for new and modified equipment.
Perform the review, improvement and update of Maintenance SOPs, Parts Lists, BOMs and CMMS data integrity for existing equipment
Perform data analysis of corrective work orders in CMMS to identify trends and area focus for improvements
Perform functional equivalency assessment of spare parts.
In collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and maintenance personnel perform or support troubleshooting of equipment.
Conducts or participates in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA).
Execute Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) improvement projects in assigned area.
Participate and provide support for audits.
Support the implementation of predictive maintenance across the facility
May assists in the preparation of and/or participation in technical reviews of equipment design projects.
May participate in FAT and commissioning of new or modified equipment
Identify cost/waste/energy reduction opportunities
May be assigned change control, Quality CAPA and Safety CAPA tasks
Report project and operational metrics
Will be assigned Reliability system ownership of process equipment.
May perform other duties as assigned
What you bring to Takeda:
Required: Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline required. Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering Degree Preferred. 2+ years of related experience.
Desired: Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical specialty preferred.
Key Skills, Abilities & Competencies
Familiarity with cGMPs is a plus
Must have proficient computer skills and be experienced using MS Office software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and MS Project.
Must possess knowledge of the core engineering principles: heat transfer, mass transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, statics and material science.
Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills required.
Must have computer-aided design experience. Solidworks preferred. Ability to create 2D drawings with GTOL preferred.
Experience with 3D printing is a plus.
Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently in a team-based environment.
Must be organized and detail focused.
Familiarity with Biotechnology manufacturing operations such as Cell Culture, purification, aseptic filling, packaging and their support systems such as CIP, SIP, HVAC, plant and clean utilities, is a plus.
Familiarity with project management principles is a plus.

Physical Demands
Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs.
In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility.
Working Environment
Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body
No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in the manufacturing environment.
Will work in a cold and/or wet environment.
Must be able to work multiple shifts, including weekends.
Non-Exempt Roles only: Must be able to work overtime as required.
May be required to work in a confined area.
Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions.
Important Considerations
At Takeda, our patients rely on us to deliver quality products. As a result, we must follow strict rules in our manufacturing facilities to ensure we are not endangering the quality of the product. In this role, you may:
May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and other clean room garments daily. This may include safety shoes, safety glasses, aprons, face shields, lab coats, full body gowns, hair nets and gloves and hearing protection.
Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
Work in a cold, wet environment.
Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary.
Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
