About the role
Join Takeda as a Medical Grants and Sponsorships Manager where you will develop therapeutic area (TA) medical education strategy and goals in close collaboration with TA medical strategy team (Medical Directors, Scientific Directors, functional representatives). You will also lead TA educational needs assessment projects including setting strategic goals, vendor selection and publication plans. As part of the US Medical team, you will report to the Sr. Director, US Medical Affairs. This is a hybrid position based in Lexington, MA.

How you will contribute

  • Manage and is responsible for the strategic review, approval, and evaluation of educational grants

  • Serve as the strategic point of contact for interacting with grant requestors (i.e., academic institutions, professional societies, medical education providers) and internal partners including grant review teams, Compliance, Legal, Global Medical Affairs

  • Design and implement internal communication plans to share metrics and impact of IME supported for a therapeutic area(s) 

  • You will interact with key internal stakeholders, which may include members of the assigned US Medical Unit(s) including Medical and Scientific Directors, and other functional medical partners such as Compliance, Medical Communications, Publications, Project Managers and Legal, as well as Global functional groups such as Medical and Clinical Development.

  • Liaise with external key stakeholders such as IME providers, Grant requestors and professional societies.

  • Lead cross functional teams (i.e. Medical Strategy, Grant review) in the development of IME strategies and objectives to meet identified needs of the medical and scientific community and assure alignment with scientific platforms and business objectives.

  • Develop the annual educational grant budget and is responsible for executing in a fiscally responsible manner ensuring alignment with strategy and objectives and making budget adjustments in response to changing business needs.

  • Lead strategic review and approval of medical grants and medical supported sponsorships/memberships (e.g., independent medical educational grants, non-educational grants, medical sponsorship, corporate memberships) and serve as a voting member of the review team.

  • Lead the development of call for grant applications (CGA’s) seeking input from Medical Directors, Scientific Directors, Publication Managers and other Medical Affairs members as needed.  Manage the Legal and Compliance approval process, posting, review and strategic decisions related to CGA’s.

  • Oversee the day to day operational and project management activities related to the educational grant and medical affairs sponsorship processes (i.e., intake, review, tracking, change of scope, reconciliation, closeout and reporting processes) recommending enhancements to processes as identified. 

  • Analyze final evaluation reports from grant recipients and in partnership with IME leadership project manager and grant review committee shares results, insights and identified medical and educational gaps to internal stakeholders (Compliance, Corporate Communications, Legal, Strategy Teams and Alliance Partners, etc.).

  • Manage the TA evaluation of supported grants including auditing activities and collaborating with the field medical teams (e.g., MSLs) and Compliance to assist with evaluation of educational activities.  In partnership with Legal and Compliance, resolves any issues that may arise from audits.  

  • Ensure compliance to all appropriate SOPs, guidelines and standards from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and other healthcare professional education accrediting bodies, government agencies (FDA, OIG, and state reporting laws), industry organizations (PhRMA), and Takeda’s Ethics and Compliance Department.

  • Support, manage, and implement the medical education grants and sponsorship(s) and tactical plan(s) to support overall shared US Medical and business objectives and contributes to the overall medical strategy.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a health sciences related field

  • 4 years’ experience in medical affairs, medical education, scientific/educational granting, or related experience in the pharmaceutical industry

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of and experience with legal and regulatory guidelines associated with independent medical education, pharmaceutical industry research and publication guidelines.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and deliverables.  Proactively identifies, communicates and resolves project issues.

  • Understand finance principles and applies them in managing project and therapeutic area budgets

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret technical and scientific terms across multiple therapeutic areas.

  • Ability to articulate technical and scientific information in a concise and clear manner with internal and external stakeholders

  • Proficiency using grant management systems, Microsoft Word, Excel PowerPoint, and Project Management software

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in a health sciences or education related field (i.e., PhD, PharmD, NP, PA, RD, MPH, MsEd)

  • Background in survey research, behavioral assessment, educational outcomes/statistical analysis and or health outcomes research

  • Experience in Medical Affairs/R&D functions, including but not limited to Medical Communications.

Travel Requirements

  •  Ability to travel up to 10% to various professional meetings, conferences and client sites – limited overnight.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

108,500.00 - 170,500.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
