Job Description
About the role:
The Director, US Medical, New Product Planning is a critical role within the US Medical organization that reports to the Sr. Director, US Medical, New Product Planning, and is accountable for the development and execution of comprehensive and integrated US-specific medical launch strategies for early assets in development (typically Phase 2 and early Phase 3) within the assigned Therapeutic Area portfolio/assets. This is an individual contributor role based in our Lexington, MA office (hybrid).
How you will contribute:
Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) representing US Medical at the USBU and Global level on relevant internal meetings, understanding the US scientific and medical landscape and patient/medical journey for assigned pipeline assets to inform launch strategy.
Partner with USBU New Product Planning team, USBU Franchise leadership, US Medical Functional leaders, and TA Medical Franchise Heads to develop the product profile, understand customer needs, competitive landscape, and other market considerations.
Collaborate with relevant Global functions to highlight US-specific needs to influence clinical study endpoint decisions to ensure US needs are represented in ongoing clinical development program, or where appropriate, other Global-driven initiatives.
Serve as medical and scientific in-house expert for assigned TA and asset, working with various US functions such as USBU NPP, USBU NPP Market Access, US Medical NPP Value & Evidence Generation (VEG), US Medical TA leads, US Medical Directors
Partner with stakeholders across Takeda (e.g. R&D, Global Product Launch Strategy, USBU, etc.,) to develop early asset strategy and medical launch plans (strategies and tactics), ensuring the US medical stakeholder voice is considered and included. This includes, but is not limited to, gathering medical insights, developing appropriate and compliant resources for field medical development and training, and compliantly supporting various early commercial activities.
Represent US Medical as core member on cross-functional teams with USBU Franchise/US NPP to drive execution of launch planning
Participate as a member Global sub-teams (e.g. Commercial subteam, Clinical subteam, Medical subteam, Publications etc.) as appropriate, bringing a US medical perspective to the program and relevant workstreams.
Evidence Generation:
Collaborate with the US Medical Value and Evidence Generation (VEG) team, Global Evidence and Outcomes (GEO), Global Health Economics (GHE), Global Patient Access (GPA) and other stakeholders to identify US-specific gaps and develop robust integrated evidence generation plans for the US
Medical Content:
Develop early US medical strategy and plans
Liaise with Global Medical counterparts to develop timely and appropriate materials for the US
Develop and/or adapt internal training materials for US Medical/USBU
Support medical review of any appropriate materials as part of medical and commercial review processes.
External Engagement:
Develop KOL engagement plans in collaboration with US Field Medical, Therapeutic Area (TA) leaders and Global Medical
Gather KOL insights that inform medical launch strategies through advisory boards, professional associations/meetings and conferences etc.; manage global interactions with US KOLs and vice versa
Partner with US Strategic Medical Alliances group on external partnership, as appropriate (e.g., external affairs/government affairs).
Develop strategic medical education plan to address gaps in disease knowledge
Budget Management:
Accountable/responsible for the budget of assigned products and planning in partnership with the US Medical Project Manager
Business Development:
Contribute to business development due diligence activities (as part of US Region or Global BD due diligence teams) as required.
Develop OPEX estimates in partnership with US Medical Functional Leaders, as needed
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Education
Required:
Advanced Doctoral Degree (MD, PharmD, DO, PhD)
Other advanced degreed professionals considered depending on past relevant pharmaceutical industry experience, and/or clinical work, research, or academic endeavors Experience working on cross-functional teams and project management
Experience with clinical research, publication activities, congress presentations, and public speaking
Preferred:
Advanced Doctoral Degree (e.g., MD, DO, PhD, PharmD) preferred with at least 5 years of relevant clinical practice, research, academic and/or pharmaceutical industry experience.
Knowledge & Experience
Strong experience in product development including clinical, TTP and label/USPI development, US medical launch needs and Commercial/Access needs.
Experience in managing global or regional cross-functional teams.
Strategic mindset with proven ability to develop and operationalize strategies and tactical plans.
Thorough understanding of legal, compliance, and regulatory guidelines related to medical affairs in the pharmaceutical industry.
Knowledge of pertinent external guidelines related to research and publications, and current standards of practice.
Leadership Skills & Behaviors
Matrix project leadership and proven operational project management skills are required.
Strong influencing skills and ability to negotiate in a matrix environment to optimize development and address barriers.
Proven strategic problem-solving ability including driving to appropriate solutions.
Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate with and prepare presentations with recommendations/action plan (where required) for Senior Management and Executives.
Ability to drive decision-making within cross-functional team structures
Simultaneous management of multiple tasks of varied complexity
Demonstrated agility in a rapidly evolving environment
Flexibility, tolerance and diplomacy to best manage change and differing opinions.
Excellent organizational skills
Strong business background and excellent commercial understanding is essential.
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
Proven skills in negotiation, influencing without authority, managing through ambiguity, and working diplomatically through conflict.
Travel Requirements
Up to 20% domestic travel, varies according to portfolio needs and internal and relevant professional meetings; occasional international travel.

$191,800.00 - $301,400.00The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
