OBJECTIVES:

The Clinical Data Engineering (CDE) group provides strategic planning, integrating, execution, build and oversight of clinical trial deliverables. As part of CDE, the Data Validation Engineering (DVE) team leads validation and reconciliation efforts of collected data, both internally and externally, by programming data validation listings, data visualizations, reconciliation checks and reports in a controlled and consistent manner. The DVE team works alongside the other CDE teams to ensure adherence to Takeda standards and GCP principles. The DVE team is vital to all data cleaning and reconciliation efforts and work cross-functionally with all members of Clinical Study teams to foster an environment of quality and efficient specifications and documentation to support audit-readiness and ICH compliance.

DVEs contribute to the successful conduct of Takeda’s clinical trials and to the delivery of high-quality data in a timely manner, leading to statistical analysis and submission to regulatory authorities. Further, the DVE team’s efforts enable valid secondary use of clinical trial data throughout Takeda research groups to maximize value and achieve company objectives.

The Senior Manager, Data Visualization Engineer role will meet the increasing demand and expanding toolset of the CDE group and the clinical study teams that they support. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating visually compelling and informative data visualizations that help our teams make data-driven decisions. They will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, analyze complex data sets, and develop innovative solutions to present insights in a clear and meaningful way.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Partner closely with internal/external stakeholders in a collaborative manner to develop requirement and specification documentation for requested data review objects.
  • Develop, validate and maintain interactive data review objects (e.g., dashboards, listings and reports) per requirements using reporting tools (e.g., Jreview, Veeva CDB, Spotfire, Tableau, Power BI, QlikView).
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their data needs in preparation for translating them into effective data review objects.
  • Ability to independently develop innovative and complex reports to support activities including, but not limited to, data review, cleaning and reconciliation
  • Develops and maintains the data review objects reusable Library to ensure consistency across programs and studies and aligned with the EDC standards
  • Program standard and study level clinical data validation checks, reconciliation listings and related data cleaning reports adhering to internal processes, approved standards and specifications provided by internal stakeholders. 
  • Ensure accurate delivery of all data validation tasks adhering to established timelines and alignment with established internal processes. 
  • Provide training and support to team members on data visualization best practices.

Additional Activities: 

  • Participate in the development of new processes and best practices and assist with providing training and awareness to other business groups and functions, affected by these new activities and ways of working.
  • Fosters effective cross-functional communication with study teams and other internal and external stakeholders to develop new or improve existing data review tools/objects
  • Evaluate process and applications for improvements; lead working groups to develop and implement new processes and applications
  • Utilizes experience and leadership skills to provide guidance to other team members
  • Provides and maintains documentation to support activities
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in data visualization and reporting tools.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data visualization, data analysis, or a related role.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as JReview, Tableau, Power BI, or QlikView.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working with cross functional teams (e.g., Data Manager, Clinical Science, Medical Coder)
  • Experience with SQL and data manipulation.
  • Knowledge of clinical data and familiarity with GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and ICH (International Council for Harmonization) guidelines.
  • Strong working knowledge of clinical trial terminology and data transfer specification is expected. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work groups. Strong project management skills. Proven ability to resolve problems independently and collaboratively.  
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands.  
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and complete tasks to deadlines.

Special Skills/Abilities: 

  • Strong attention to detail, and organizational skills  
  • Good time management skills  
  • Quick learner and comfortable asking questions, learning new technologies and systems  
  • Good knowledge of office software (Microsoft Office).  

Preferable but not required: 

  • Experience with JReview visualization suite.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Experience with data warehousing and ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with UX/UI design principles.
  • Experience with Agile development methods 
  • Experience with Veeva CDB

License/Certifications:

  • Preferred to have SAS, R or Python certification.

Travel Requirements:

  • Could require up to 1-2 domestic trips annually.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$137,000.00 - $215,270.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
