JOB LOCATION: Cambridge, MA

POSITION: Scientist, Synthetic Molecule Process Development

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Takeda Development Center Americas, Inc. is seeking a Scientist, Synthetic Molecule Process Development with the following duties: Provide theoretical/conceptual input to the design, development, and execution of research assignments for a specific project or projects within the functional area (pipeline or non-pipeline); Independently plan and executes complex experiments, searching for novel approaches and methodologies to solve complex technical challenges; Plan and coordinate work with departmental and cross functional peers (within and outside Pharm Sci) with an understanding of project timelines/deliverables; Maintain and build relationships with existing key vendors; Proactively analyze manufacturing issues and coordinates potential solutions with the CMC (Chemistry, manufacturing, and controls) team; Assist in the technical aspects of negotiation with vendors; Develop and implement novel approaches and tools for data collection, management, engineering, analysis, modeling, and interpretation; Review, interpret data, and communicate results with Pharm Sci functions and CMC team; Planning and implementation of solutions to project problem/issues; Communicate activities from their functional area to project teams (pipeline, non-pipeline, and functional initiatives) and request functional area action from the project teams to senior leaders in their functional area. Up to 10% travel required. Up to 20% remote work allowed.

REQUIREMENTS: PhD degree in organic chemistry or related field. Prior experience must include: Utilize lab equipment and operations by using the following techniques: NMR spectroscopy, chromatography (TLC, GC, HPLC), Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy, and Karl Fischer titration. Manage one’s time within individual, departmental, and corporate goals and timelines; coordinate and oversee internal and external resources (vendors) to ensure project milestones are met within designated schedules and budgets.  Troubleshoot critical issues or problems in a synthetic route in a lab scale, pilot plant scale, and manufacturing scale, and determine causes and propose possible solutions. Document and communicate technical findings and concerns clearly within a team, utilizing concise language tailored to colleagues and supervisors; prepare documentation detailing identified issues in measurable terms for submission to internal stakeholders; adapt communication styles to effectively relay information to diverse audiences, including supervisors; author internal technical documents, such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and reports, adhering to organizational and regulatory standards. Demonstrate mastery of organic chemistry or related field, by successful completion of the following coursework: Physical Organic Chemistry, Natural Product Synthesis, Organometallic Chemistry, Special Topics in Chemical Biology, Special Topics in Organic Chemistry, Fundamentals in Organic Reaction Mechanisms, and Current Topics in Organic Chemistry.

Full time. $128,800 - $208,600 per year. Competitive compensation and benefits.
