Job Description
About the role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Specialist I to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring the organization’s compliance with all applicable EH&S regulations and standards. The successful candidate will oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive EH&S programs, including but not limited to emergency response and preparedness, managing response teams, maintaining the effective operation of fire and life safety systems, and ensuring a secure and safe work environment for all employees. Additionally, the candidate will collaborate with staff across various departments at the Los Angeles (LA), Van Nuys (VN), and other facilities as needed to promote a strong EH&S culture.
How you will contribute:
Monitor, interpret, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EH&S regulations, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and DOT standards.
Develop, implement, and maintain EH&S policies, procedures, and training programs to meet regulatory requirements.
Allocate and manage resources to develop and implement EH&S initiatives efficiently and within established timelines.
Act EH&S liaison for site expansion, improvement or other construction projects, collaborating with project sponsors and supporting entities as required.
Provide EH&S representation and support to the site’s functional Business Units to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate EH&S requirements.
Provide leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams on EH&S matters.
Lead and participate in investigations to resolve compliance issues, address questions, and implement corrective actions.
Support the development and execution of the EH&S Management System to drive continuous improvement.
Conduct training programs on relevant EH&S policies and procedures.
Maintain open communication with employees, leadership, and regulatory agencies to promote a culture of safety and compliance.
Partner with Corporate EH&S to support and implement global EH&S initiatives.
Serve an active role (lead or member) in the site’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), responding to emergencies within the scope of provided training, including but not limited to First Aid, CPR & AED and Spill Response where use of SCBA equipment may be required.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and DOT.
Functional understanding of EH&S Management Systems, including ISO 14001 and 45001 standards.
Demonstrated experience in emergency response planning and team management.
Proficiency in fire and life safety system management and security protocols.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects effectively.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact successfully in a diverse work environment.
Ability and willingness to respond to emergencies, analyze situations, and provide effective leadership on behalf of the department.
Proven ability to identify hazards, drive continuous improvement, and implement practical solutions for risk reduction and control measures.
Strong interpersonal skills, essential for collaborating with individuals at all levels, including technical staff, site leaders, and hourly personnel, and for influencing and motivating teams to achieve results.
High energy, passion for excellence, a bias for action, adaptability, and resilience in a dynamic environment.
Demonstrated competencies in analytical thinking, effective communication, interpersonal understanding, initiative, teamwork, and a commitment to quality and attention to detail.
Experience in a research laboratory, biotechnology or pharmaceutical environment, preferred.
What you bring to Takeda:
High School Diploma or GED plus 6+ years of related experience OR Bachelors' degree in science, engineering, EHS or other related technical field and 3+ years of related experience. Some leadership experience preferred for Supervisor role.
Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar credentials are highly preferred.
Important Considerations
At Takeda, our patients rely on us to deliver quality products. As a result, we must follow strict rules in our manufacturing facilities to ensure we are not endangering the quality of the product. In this role, you may:
In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility.
Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 10 pounds routinely and and/or move up to 35 pounds (with assistance) occasionally.
May be required to work in a confined area.
Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions.
May work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.
Will need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
May work in a cold, hot or wet environment.
May work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
Must be able to work multiple shifts, including weekends.
Must be able to work overtime as required. (only for non-exempt positions)

$84,000.00 - $132,000.00The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
