Job Description
About the role:
The Director, Customer & Business Insights leads and manages a team responsible for executing qualitative and quantitative primary market research and competitive intelligence to derive insights to drive, challenge and validate strategic business and tactical marketing decisions, while also building market research capabilities for the future. This can include the identification of optimal pre-and post-launch brand strategies and marketing tactics such as brand positioning, messaging and sales aids. In addition to technical proficiency with a range of primary research methodologies and secondary data analysis, the candidate must be able to clearly understand and articulate key business questions, determine the methodology best suited to meet those objectives and ensure optimal study design and execution. This leader serves as the “voice of the customer” and must then translate "customer learning" into actionable recommendations based on key insights. This role is also responsible for building a comprehensive and unified Competitive Intelligence function for the BU.
As a strategic partner, the role requires a collaborative approach with the marketing team(s), sales, managed markets and cross-functional partners. Due to the nature of the work, strong ability to manage complexity, think analytically, prioritize work and allocate resources accordingly are key for success.
How you will contribute:
Leads a team responsible for market research including study design, vendor selection, fieldwork logistics planning and management, analysis of findings, creation and presentation of final reports.
Develops a framework of primary market research and competitive intelligence tools and trainings to deepen capabilities across the team, increase innovation and improve research processes and vendor management.
Champion new approaches & techniques to acquire a deeper understanding of physician, patient and other stakeholder behaviors, needs and motivations.
Determines the best research methodology based on the objectives of the studies. Prioritizes the work of the direct reports to ensure that all required work is completed in a timely manner to support the portfolio of brands.
Establishes an innovative culture that fosters the development of objective data-driven approaches to market research and competitive intelligence utilizing both primary and secondary tools
Develops, executes and implements research processes across multiple disease states to ensure a logically consistent analysis and interpretation of market research results that facilitate insights into commercial strategy and decision making.
Oversees efficient and optimal use of annual market research budget
Manages and imparts operational excellence in project management and qualitative and quantitative techniques and new market research approaches to ensure high quality and insightful answers to achieve business objectives.
Leads discussions with legal, ethics and compliance, etc to establish and maintain BU and enterprise policies and procedures. Oversees market research regulatory and compliance guidelines and responsible for the development of processes to achieve greater efficiencies.
Manages outsourcing initiatives to ensure highest quality of service and identifies opportunities to enhance vendor deliverables. Facilitates resolution of vendor issue across portfolio.
Functions as a business partner to the marketing teams as well as various commercial analytics functional areas to address key business issues. Create strategic partnership with internal customers and extended team members. Responsible for ensuring the strategic application of all business insight functions to support commercialization of all products.
Proactively identify opportunities & threats. Assists in the development of brand strategies and tactics
Provide regular updates on marketplace performance and evolving trends affecting market potential
Develops and maintains deep expertise in past, current and anticipated therapeutic area issues, industry trends, competitor products, and future pipeline products. Able to use market knowledge to guide brand team strategy.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Required:
BA or BS in business, marketing, social sciences or similar field.
10+ years experience in the pharmaceutical industry with 4-6 years in market research, and competitive intelligence.
Extensive experience conducting primary market research. Expertise in a broad range of qualitative and quantitative market research methodologies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Strong leadership experience and building Insights capabilities
Preferred:
Advanced degree in business, marketing, and social sciences
Experience with biologics or specialty products in rheumatology, dermatology or gastroenterology preferred
Experience on client or supplier side of industry
Experience in consulting in pharmaceutical or health care industry
Strong visualization and storytelling skills

Lexington, MAU.S. Base Salary Range:
$174,500.00 - $274,230.00The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
